The Pats are tired and their undefeated season is the only story in the NFL. What should be meaningless games towards the end of the schedule are now going to be overscrutinized and the team is going to be under a microscope. A loss to the Steelers would deflect the media attention and give the Patriots an opportunity to begin resting players, disguising schemes for the playoffs and the best part about it, the media would write them off and crown the Steelers as the team to beat in the playoffs. We would still have home field and that would serve as extra motivation to beat them a second time. The team is feeling the pressure now and a loss or two would deflect that and make the Patriots not the only story in the league and perhaps and underdog.

A two or three week bye for some of these guys might be a good thing.

Curious, what was your first post?

Can you guys smell that?

Re: Loss against Steelers would be a good thing

Sorry Michael Gee, but no.

Two playoff game type atmospheres to get to the Super Bowl or six playoff type games to preserve a record and get to the Super Bowl? What would you rather have?

It's called being battle tested.. This is good for them, as well as good practice for the playoffs... Enjoy the ride...

Re: Loss against Steelers would be a good thing

I don't quite think the Patriots view things that way.

Re: Loss against Steelers would be a good thing

Sorry Michael Gee, but no.

Why? There is nothing good to come out of the Patriots going undefeated besides tying the 1972 Dolphins. What is the point in going full throttle against the Giants in week 16? I want a fresh team in the first game of the playoffs. We've seen what lesser teams have brought the last couple of weeks and the Patrios have barely been able to match that intensity. I don't want a tired team with Jacksonville coming into Foxboro.

I think his first post was exactly the same. He's managed to post it twice. He clearly feels very strongly about it.

Re: Loss against Steelers would be a good thing

People were posting the same thing in 2003. We started at 2-2 and won the next 12 in a row. Towards the end it was "better to lose now than in the playoffs",etc. Silliness.

Re: Loss against Steelers would be a good thing

We will be in trouble if we go into the playoffs undefeated, full throttle. They will look like the team in the second half against the Colts in last years AFC Championship game or the tired run D against the Ravens. Everyone plays their best against them because they want to be the team to beat the Pats. We need full focus and strength against the Jaguars and Colts. Addai and Taylor will eat up a tired team. We need two bye weeks. A loss this week will take a lot of pressure off the team and we can forget the Giants game. Treat it like the fifth exhibition game.

It's not an either-or. Why is this so hard to understand?

Every game the Pats play I want to see them win.

We know the Patriots win matchup wise against any team in the league. The main goal now is maintaining energy until the games count in January. That is what we've learned the most over the last couple of weeks.

You want to go into the playoffs full throttle.

We need two bye weeks.
You sound young. One bye week is good, two is bad.

When the Pats had a bye week locked up a couple years ago, they played the starters well into the fourth quarter against the Niners week 17.

Why are those things mutually exclusive? Oh wait, that's right - THEY'RE NOT. And I suspect the Patriots don't feel the "pressure" or whatever NEARLY as much as some think they do. This is part of what BB insulates them from.

I don't disagree that they would respond well if they DID lose, I just don't think it's necessary and I certainly don't think it's a "good thing."

Sure it is. We know they can win against every team when they are at their sharpest. We also know what inferior teams can do against them when they are tired.

Do you realize we have 2 weeks between the Giants game and the first playoff game. Then 2 weeks between AFC Championship and superbowl. I don't see being tired as an issue.

BTW, losing/letting-up really helped the 2005 Colts...13-0, then 1-2 to finish it out; and no trip to the superbowl
