are we that team ? i remember during 2004 we used to scoff at the colts scoring all those points and mention that defense wins championships and eventually won them too. Are we that kind of team now like the 2004 colts where everyone is caught up in the offensive numbers but the defense is soft ?
If this were the colts wouldnt we be saying that they cant win in the playoffs with the defense like this ?
I know people will kill me for this ,and I guess i admit iam overreacting but its ironical how our point of views have changed over 2 yrs and we have gotten caught up in the offensive numbers and MVP debates and single season TD's and rightfully so but in the big picture, our D has just not been tested enough and when it has its been found lacking. I sure hope they prove us wrong and i think we have enough people like seymour and vince to play strong upfront and stop the run. Otherwise it is going to be all for nothing.
or maybe the old adage of defense wins championships doesnt mean much in today's NFL.

Well the defense certainly had a terrible game yesterday, but I take comfort in remembering that they got it done when it counted. They've been doing that consistently all year at least, including making the big stop against the Colts when it counted. If they can keep doing that, the games'll always be nail biters like yesterday, but the Pats will always have a chance.

If in the course of starting a thread you admit even to yourself that you are over reacting, why not just read a while and leave the thread starting to those who have some level of confidence, rightly or wrongly, in their musings...

But do keep on worrying - when you aren't nervous is when I really worry. ;)

I guess I'm not far off from you in saying that I'm not entirely comfortable with the way the D has been pushed around and picked apart the past 2 games. They did come up big in the 4th when they needed to, though. BB is going to have a field day with the O and D this week.

That said, I'm not donning a hard hat yet. :)

in that case..iam quite confident they will stop willie parker this sunday ;)...and i was before last nites game . I thought some of mcgahee's moves when surrounded by defenders were quite amazing.

Not only Willis' moves but the power and additional yards after getting wrapped up, too.

The reason that I always knew the Pats would beat the Colts back in the day wasn't just their defense, but the fact that their defense would force Manning to win the game himself, which I knew he couldn't do. The defense definitely needs to improve, especially against the run and down the seam, but remember what Stephen A. Smith said...."You still got Tom Brady...quite frankly, that's all you need."

This defense instills no confidence in me whatsoever. This has got to be the poorest tackling defense in the league. Bar none. It's brutal. Our pass rush is also non-existent far too much. I defended the guy, but I'm starting to sour on Ellis Hobbs. He just doesn't make any plays and is constantly giving up completions. Everyone talks about Tom Brady being the one guy we cannot go without. Guess what? If Asante gets hurt, than our defense is toast.

So what did Asante do last night besides give up a huge TD reception and get picked on successfully for most of the evening while paired with a rookie safety? He had his worst game of the season too, including getting run over in run support.

This was certainly not our best game of the season, and it was clearly Baltimore's Superbowl. I get the distinct impression some of you don't watch many other games. Indy has been clinging by their fingernails for weeks. That is what good teams do when the going gets tough. They've even lost a couple of games that we haven't. Yet here we are doomed even in victory...LOL

Armchair critics have become the worst offshoot of this dynasty.

It's not easy to game plan for JAG QB's who haven't started in ages and didn't play very well when last they did. How many here were screaming last week that we need to sign Feeley as our backup after the Eagles game? Did you watch him this week? Have you watched Kyle Boller for most of his pathetic first round career? Watch him, and Baltimore, next week after they finish throwing each other under a fleet of busses (in between complaining about we got all the breaks and they got robbed - which clearly is why their record is 4-8...).
