OK, I’ve got to get some thoughts out after that one…….I want someone to tell me the undefeated season is no big deal, because if you think about it, that game really didn’t mean that much. It’s a very big deal.
Going to start with a question about the run defense which I’m sure will be the big topic of conversation. Colvin was missed I assume, as Thomas went outside? Is the Seymour Warren Wilfork trio not performing? I have to confess it’s difficult for me to tell watching the game, other than the fact the Pats were getting gashed. More knowledgeable football minds than mine are welcome.
I think I came around more tonight than ever before that the Pats should do as much as they possibly can to sign Samuel. It’s important to have some elite players, and he is one. Speaking of Samuel, if the Ravens had scored on that last play, his mugging would have haunted me to my grave.
Faulk is a smart, tough player, but he almost cost the Pats the game by not getting that last yard on the final series. I know he’s thinking of conserving the clock, but time wasn’t really the Pats enemy there. Whew.
Not to harp on the telecast, but Shula sitting there for such a long time in the second half was just appalling. Five minutes in the first half? Fine. What they did? No way. Also, I know more casual fans maybe enjoy it, but the yuck yuck yuck crap in the second half nearly drove me up to a tower with a rifle.
Gaffney is a keeper. And what’s with acting like that catch was close? It wasn’t.
Refs again seemed pretty shady to me, but the holding call at the end made up for a lot. Bottom line, nobody’s going to say boo if they don’t call it, and the Pats would have a loss.
I don’t think enough is made about how the nature of the media—cable, the Internet, etc. etc. has changed the dynamics of trying to go undefeated like the Pats are now. It’s absolutely relentless, teams are getting sky high against them, they throw so many games into nighttime and/or later slots, and on and on. The Dolphins didn’t have to deal with this, they just didn’t.
Hey, you know what? I’m glad the Pats won. Get past the Steelers and they’ve got this thing, for the regular season at least.
