A long article from the Globe on everyone's favorite undersized receiver. Check out his stats in HS--and that one soccer game they mention. [At least, I think that's a single game they're talking about. . . .] Reading that makes me wonder if Welker would have been enough to put the Pats over the top against the Colts last year.

Also, on another forum I found what may become my nickname for Welker.

Slottweiler. I love it. :rocker:

I read this article this morning. I think he's my favorite player ever. He's got that "badass" feel to him.

And he's not a bad actor in those Spiderman movies, either.

I just don't understand why Tobey Maguire changes his name to Wes Welker during football season.

When he says, "Wes Welker, Texas Tech" on the SNF intros, I swear I think he's about to say, "Aw, jeepers, MJ..."

Great story. Doesn't it seem like the Pats have a few guys like this; smart, tough, talented guys who don't necessarily wow people with their physical tools?

No wonder this team is so resilient in adverse situations...

Troy Brown is the closest (too small, too slow). Lots of players have some adversity (Brady, AD: 6th round), the Pats don't have any free agents as talented or productive as Welker, and there are very few anywhere else. Pretty special player.

They called him the "Slot Machine" on ESPN. Pretty good nickname.

Now that's funny.

great article, i imagine our lockerroom is filled up with most of these types of guys....

can u imagine wut type of air that lockerroom can have? i figure a lot of good men in there, Wes is defenetely one of them

There's a great Youtube clip of Welker's highlights at Texas Tech. The clip points out the obvious...even if he's undrafted, you just have to bring him in as a FA to give him a look. At least.

Regards,
Chris

One thing I can say is that the minute I heard the Pats picked him up, I was completely fired up. I love the guy and he's proving his worth with every insane catch that he makes and every brutal hit he gets over the middle.

Yes, I'm wearing an 83 jersey right now....the guy is money.

dude, clearly he would have -- it's not even a question.

welker was all we needed this year, the rest was gravy.

Clearly he had too much heart and guts for the Bolts...

"San Diego offered a contract to Welker in 2004, but for some reason provided him just one game to show his stuff. He returned four kicks for 102 yards and was dismissed three days later."

Ironically enough, he was cut to make room for Tim Dwight.

Great read. Thanks.

Jeez, though. I hope his mom didn't hear his little "You fwcking suck!"...

I'm sure dad would shake it off, and she's heard it before, but I'm guessing mama would be upset at him for that...:)

that is awesome -- thx for that tidbit.

maybe this is why the chargers suck.
