10 men on the field

Would it have been bad if the Bills threw a TD pass to where Taylor should have been?

I bet Tom and Randy would have picked up on it only to be called classless. I'm just wondering how the rest of you feel.

You know I just realized how the Pats could get back some good will in the country. We should start with ten men on D against the Ravens just keep out Hobbs. Because would it really make a big difference? Just thinking out loud.

I think it was a great tribute by the Redskins.

Umm, yes, it would have been utterly and completely classless. And I think Belichick is man enough that he would have ran a running play to the left, too.

I disagree. I mean, I understand what the Redskins were saying with that action. I agree with it. However, I don't think that the 'skins voluntary action should necessarily require a voluntary action on the opponent's part. What would have happened if they chose to play the whole game with 10 defenders? Should no plays have been run to where Taylors assignments would have been?

Bills didn't know that was what the Skins were going to do and are a team that almost always run on first down. The Pats on the other hand throw on first down.

Yeah, great "tribute" giving up a 22-yard run. I thought it was an unnecessary gesture that could seriously have hurt the team's chances to win. Why not honor the man by simply playing the game hard?

Always somebody has to be a wisea$$.

My intent was not to be a wise-*****. I just had the thought and wondered what others thought.

It would of been horrible and DEFINITELY classless. The guy is killed so they decided to run a 10 man defense. Exploiting that is like spitting on him.

I as well thought that it was a great tribute by the Redskins.

Some emotions definitley would have been stirred had a big pass play been called in that area.

That is not true. The Bills did not know there were 10 men out there until afterwards. They ran the ball because that was the play that they had planned to run. The Bills are often a first run offense.

Had the skins been playing the Pats which tend to throw deep on first down it may very well have become a TD.

No, the Bills didn't know that the Skins would play a 10-man defense, they aren't privy to Patsfans forum which had been discussing it all week.

I'd like to believe that Taylor would not want to see his team put itself in jeopardy like that, regardless of the opponent. I wonder if they would even risk it against the Pats or another pass first team. I will say this though, I want my team to play for 60 minutes, regardless of what the opponent is doing. The whole league is wearing a 21 on their helmets in his honor. Is one team supposed to take honoring him a step further, just because they're playing his team? I'd be upset if we didn't score on that play.

That's a bit of a straw man argument. You play to win the game, but, under these particular circumstances, I think one voluntary action is acceptable. [I also agree that if they had been coming out against the Pats, they may well not have tried the missing-man salute.]

I don't know for sure what the Pats would have done in that situation, but I think that BB would not have gone for it on the first play. If the Redskins had continued to play 10, though, I suspect Belichick would have no qualms about attacking the hole.

I don't agree at all. If you're not going to try and get as many yards as you can, it's essentially like giving up a down. Are the Redskins going to give you an extra down? What if Jackson had been stuffed right there because Jauron didn't want to be perceived as a bad guy?

Ok. You called me out on my straw man :(

Nobody can say for sure what would have happened. If the Pats went out and a run was called, they probably would have ran it like it was called. If it was a pass play, I can almost guarantee you Brady would pick up on the missing safety and heave it downfield.

I think it's a weird tribute to put your team at a disadvantage, when thats the last thing Sean Taylor would have wanted.

If that's the case, Michael Pittman would have taken the rock to the house.
