In the past that would have been incomplete, but they changed things slightly before the season and most of the time that is called a fumble now.

While we have heard over the years how the Pats get the calls (even tough the "tuck rule" call was correct), the Pats were victims of a bad call like this in SB 38. The receiver caught the ball and was turning upfield when the Pats knocked it out. It was called incomplete. But because the Pats won, no one cared.

You see what you want to see. Either he caught it, and his knee was down, or he never had control to call it a catch. According to Collinsworth on NBC, the reason it was incomplete was he was falling to the ground on his own and that means he must maintain posession of the ball all the way. I will have to go back and look at it again to see if I agree.

Give me a break. Was a fumble, plain and simple. I turned the channel not because of the "Colt" officiating again...I changed it because Nantz and Simms make me want to puke. I agree, Nantz does seem to have an elation in his voice when he announces something positively for the Colts.

That being said, the Colts played well. But, they do get the calls. It was indeed a catch AND a fumble. The game changing play IMO.

I know that you are a Colt fan and that will cloud your judgement on this, but Utecht took two steps before he was tackled.

It was an incomplete pass because it was ruled so, however, I think its a really bad call or rule. The guy caught it, both feet down with possession.

I hate the way its called now where you have to control it all the way through to the lockeroom, put it in plastic and mail it UPS home before its a reception, bad rule, worse interpretations, imho.

Now you could make an argument that his knee was down before the ball came out, but I don't think that was conclusive either.

Troy Palolamala sp? had an interception against the Colts two years ago in the playoffs that was taken away because he didn't make a football move. Dude caught it, turned ran a full step, went down and the ground knocked it out, it gets ridiculous.

The Polamalu call was a blatant attempt to rig the game against the Steelers. The league ADMITTED IT a few days after the game that the call was COMPLETELY WRONG. Don't try to dress THAT pig up.

The NFL actually admitted one of their referee’s made a bad call.

The National Football League now says referee Pete Morelli made a bad call during Sunday’s Pittsburgh-Indianapolis playoff game. Mike Pereira, the league’s vice president of officiating, says in a statement that Morelli was wrong when he ruled that Pittsburgh defensive back Troy Polamalu never had control of an interception late in the game.With just under five and a half minutes left in the game, Polamalu picked off Colts’ quarterback Peyton Manning, fumbled the ball and then recovered it.Referee Morelli ruled that Polamalu never had control of the ball while intercepting it, hence, no interception was made and the ball stayed in possession of the Colts.Earlier today, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the decision by the referee was a judgment call.The Colts moved down the field and scored a touchdown, cutting the Steelers lead to three points.

I will agree with this but say that it was an incorrect interpretation of a rule.

BTW, Troy knock the ball out with his knee as he was getting up to return the int. It wasn't the ground.
