At this moment, the Giants are two games ahead of the other Wild Card contenders.

If that happy circumstance holds up, they won't have anything to play for Week 16, and they'll be looking at a game the following week.

(Their division championship will surely be out of reach by then.)

Cassel v. Lorenzen

A Saturday night prime time exposition game.

Look at it this way...they are 2 games up on teh nearest Wildcards...(3 on Det) with 4 remaining...and 4 games away from 1st place...SO...unless they lose to Phila, Wash and Buff, that last game will mean squat..

Never looked at this from that angle, kudos.

Go Giants!

If the Pats are 15-0 at that point (IMO) they will have something to play for. Trying to do something that no other team in the NFL was able to do this year and prevent the Pats from having a perfect season.

Only if the Giants are complete fools. Fans care about this BS. The Giants first priority must be getting ready to win a road playoff game. That means resting starters and game planning for the next week.

Eli Manning sucks...either way, we will beat them...

Does it matter? The gmen are simply NOT beating Bill Belichick and Tom Brady with 16-0 on the line and with Eli "I am adpoted" Manning at the controls. I look at Eli the same way I looked at us, the Bills, and the Cowgirls when they had Drew Bozo at QB. As long as they areplaying QB, than they simply are NOT going to win BIG GAMES. End of story.

You're right, the Giants will have nothing to play for... because they stink so bad even the players understand they would have zero chance to win the SB and also realize they are as big a fraud playoff team as there has ever been.

Tell me that the Giants are better than the Bills and I won't believe you because today the Bills would beat the MaryManning Gints 7 out of 10 times and this while the Bills have been decimated by injuries.

AND OMG, any Gint fans with their heads in the smog should notice that the Bears really suck. I mean, how many chances to score can a team blow in one game? Parity in the case of these two teams should be spelled "parody."

Yes, both teams will play to win. But the Giants' situation still matters. For example, it could affect whether the Giants' coaches knock themselves out to win the game, or whether they spend some time scouting the next week's possible opponents, hold back a trick play or two, and so on.

For another angle, suppose the Pats are 15-0. The Giants will surely start with their starters and so will the Pats, a couple of the most banged up ones perhaps excepted.

But if the Pats go up by a couple of scores, how quickly will the Giants go deep into their reserves? That depends a lot on whether they need the win.

And if the Giants go deep into to their reserves, then the Pats can perhaps get away with resting more of their own players and preserving them from injury too.

It will be week 17, not 16, but that's a good point to consider as the season winds down.
