As of right now, we're picking #2 in the 2008 draft with four games to go:

Vikings at home
Cincinnati at home
Tampa Bay at home
Cleveland on the road

If San Francisco loses all four games, we will clinch the #2 pick.

I think that Cincinnati is the biggest threat to pull out a loss.

Tampa Bay is a threat if they clinch the division early and start resting key players. To keep them from clinching, we kind of need them to lose to New Orleans right now.

I suppose its also possible that Cleveland won't have anything to play for going into the last week. But between the wild card and the division, I think this is unlikely. Even if they don't have anything to play for, I'm not sure SF can beat them.

i can almost taste the 2nd pick overall for 2008...:singing:

I was really bummed when the Cowboys traded with the Browns because I wasn't psyched about anyone on the board and thought having 3 #1s would be awesome.

No matter what I was convinced that the Browns pick was going to be pretty high and the 49ers pick would be middle of the round.

Heh.

There is a thread on this already with a sticky. No need to make new ones every week.

That would make a nice pick for your Pats. The only downside is that means big money.

That's ok. I'd rather spend big money on a STUD than have Pioli draft more Maroney's and Jackson's of the world with late 1sts and early 2nd's.

Yeah, if only Pioli could find the studs in those rounds the way Polian does.;) Have a good one.

I agree boss. Polian is better at drafting college players to fill the Colts needs than Pioli is at drafting college players to fill the Pats needs. I hate Polian, but I have to give the devil his due. Pioli's strengths are finding low cost free agents to fill our needs, making great trades for veterans, and knowing who to re-sign and who to let walk.

yeah...Pioli is really horrible at drafting NFL players

except for Tom Brady

and Richard Seymour

and Ty Warren

and Vince Wilfork

and Logan Mankins

and Ben Watson

and Dan Koppen

and Asante Samuel

and Deion Branch

and Daniel Graham

and...oh wait...somebody is a full blown NUTCASE here

While it would great to get the #2 overall pick, who would the Pats select? Dorsey? I'm worried about his knees. Chris Long? Maybe. Jake Long? I'm leaning more towards trading down a lot and acquiring 2nd and 3rd round picks. That is where the value is at.

Your right, Piloi should be fired. 3 superbowls is not enough production. I'd start looking elsewhere.

There is a thread on this already with a sticky. No need to make new ones every week.

There is also a sticky thread about Patriots records. Do you want to banish all of the threads discussing records as well?

The sticky discusses the rules for determining draft order. It shouldn't preclude a timely discussion of what it takes for us to clinch #2.

NSA is a troll. If you recognize who he is, then stop feeding him!

Hey nutjob......you missed an important Pioli strength - being one of the key men credited for putting together (draft, trade & FA) the greatest team that ever was, is and most likely will ever be.

Buddy, once again you completely exagerrate my post and fail to read my other posts on this topic. My beef with Pioli is the fact that he has butchered the last two drafts. Again, should I just give him a pass??? Should the Broncos fans give Mike Shanahan a lifetime get out of jail free card because he won 2 super bowls? I mean, good lord, give me a break. Pioli is without a doubt a great GM. Hovever, he is in a major slump with his draft picks the last 2 years. I don't want to hear this crap that none of the players after round 2 could have made this team the last 2 years because I can assure you that there would be players just as good, if not better, than the Kyle Eckel's, Rashad Baker's, Eddie Jackson's, and Chad Brown's of the world that are currently on our 53 man roster. If you think Maroney was worth the #21 pick in the draft and Jackson was worth the #36 pick than you are kidding yourself.

And, btw, Daniel Graham was not worth the #18 pick in the draft. He is a solid TE, nothing more and nothing less.

If they lose out it doesn't clinch anything.

The Rams, Jets or Falcons could all easily lose out as well.

If any of the above teams does so, then it's a matter of SOS, which won't be determined until the final game.
