I don't know if we can afford to sign both this offseason.
Depending on who stays this will affect our draft picks. I believe $$$ is more important to Asante so we may be looking for a CB to draft.

Moss will resign, and he's already said the money isn't important to him anymore.

Samuel believes he's one of the absolute best CB's in the league, and he wants $10M per. I think he's very good, but I wouldn't give him that kind of money. I don't think the Patriots would either, especially with Moss in need of resigning. Some other team will give him that kind of money though, and he won't sign with NE for less. The Pats will be able to use that money to bring in a FA LB, and maybe a vet CB who wants to win, so he signs on the cheap.

Randy is not going anywhere, Brady will simply not allow it, the only thing they are waiting for is the one year restructuring rule. Spend no more time conteplating this.

I think that the Pats were smart to put off Assante for another year. They clearly wanted him to hit free agency this off-season (did anyone here, think that the Pats were not going to win 12 games this year?). Last year every team was slush with money from the new CBA. The cap will again go up another 7 mil this year, but their still won't be as much money going around. It all depends on how much Asante wants to "get paid".

Someone should make up a highlight tape of the following free agents post patriots careers.

Ty Law, Willie McGinest, Woody, et al

Would we get a Draft pick if Samuel leaves?
thanks

Why is this even a question?

We are paying Asante $8 million a year now, and Moss $5 million a year. And we have $5 million plus in unused CAP space right now. We could pay Asante another million plus, and Moss another 3 million and lock both up, and stay within this years CAP.

Next year the CAP increases; Seau, Rodney, Izzo retire, saving some money and Colvin, Washington, and perhaps Stallworth re-negotiate. The only possible loss is Stallworth. What's the problem?

The expansion in next years' CAP would even probably allow us to sign Karlos Dansby from AZ. That would allow Tedy, AD,and Karlos, to break in a Laurinaitis; and Asante, Randy and Ellis to break in a new fourth CB. Meanwhile the Safety situation is amply accounted forwith Sanders, Gino, Meriwether, and the ST Safeties like Baker, Andrews etc.:D

Not likely consider the money and players we got.

We will probably get a 3rd rounder if Asante walks. He will sign for just as much as Clements. Buffalo got a three. We wouldn't get a 3 if we used the money saved and signed a cb to similiar contract. We won't have the cap room to do that. Pretty safe in saying we get a 3 if Samuel walks. However, if we want some guys to redo contracts and release them; Stallworth, Colvin or Rodney. Then, we don't get compensation for them.
That pick will be in 09 draft. Not 08.

The only thing that the Pats MIGHT get is a compensation draft pick. Every year the NFL hands out 32 "comp picks" no more, no less. It is a complicated theory of which the basis is, did you lose more and better free agents than you signed. Last year the Pats recieved 3 picks if I remember right. There is NO WAY that the Pats get any comp picks this year (They signed Thomas, Stallworth, and did not lose much).

If Asante goes, he would most likely return a 3rd round pick (if everything else is even). The pick would be at the end of the third rd @#100 or so. We have so older threads from last years draft which explain the whole comp pick theories.

Would BB pay Asante 9 mil a year?
