Re: Not Pats but NFL: Arrests made in Taylor killing

Obviously that's good - but it doesn't bring Taylor back. Anything short of life with no chance of parole, regardless of intent, would be a travesty.

I was just getting ready to post this... This is from the AJC, a Atlanta based newspaper...

Police: 4 Arrested in Taylor's Slaying
By LISA ORKIN EMMANUEL

Associated Press Writer

MIAMI — The Miami-Dade Police Department arrested four people Friday and charged them with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor.

Police spokeswoman Linda O'Brien identified the men as: Venjah K. Hunte, 20; Eric Rivera Jr., 17; Jason Scott Mitchell, 17; and Charles Kendrick Lee Wardlow, 18.

Taylor died Tuesday, one day after being shot at his home in an affluent Miami suburb during what officials said appeared to be an attempted burglary. The suspects weren't expecting Taylor to be home, police director Robert Parker said, but Taylor was recuperating from a knee injury and had returned to Miami from Washington.

"They were certainly not looking to go there and kill anyone," Parker said. He added authorities had more than one confession but would not elaborate.

"We're looking into whether or not one or more of the individuals had been at the residence before," Parker said.

The Miami Herald reported investigators believe the men learned of Taylor's house through someone who unwittingly set up the burglary by bragging about Taylor's wealth.

Taylor and longtime girlfriend, Jackie Garcia, were awakened early Monday by loud noises at Taylor's home, family friend Richard Sharpstein said. Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection, Sharpstein said, then someone broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor in the upper leg. Neither the couple's 18-month-old daughter, also named Jackie, nor Garcia were injured.

The bullet damaged the femoral artery in Taylor's leg, causing significant blood loss. Taylor never regained consciousness and died a little more than 24 hours later.

A public viewing for Taylor is scheduled Sunday in Miami, and the entire Redskins organization plans to fly to Florida to attend Monday's funeral at Pharmed Arena at Florida International University.

The Redskins also announced that fans attending the team's Sunday game will receive a towel with Taylor's No.21 jersey on it and that his name will be displayed prominently in one of the end zones. Team owner Dan Snyder said in a statement the team will contribute a minimum of $500,000 to a fund to benefit Taylor's daughter.

It's the same article... Very little has been changed...

Reading this really drives home the senselessness of all this.:(

Re: Not Pats but NFL: Arrests made in Taylor killing

So they don't believe this had something to do with Taylor's past?

It was annoying how all the media talk after it happened centered around how Taylor's past caught up to him. I know it's naturally the conclusion people draw based on what's happened in Taylor's life, but if this turns out to be a completely random event, then all of that looks pretty dumb.

That stuff made me mad. Especially how they lumped in the spitting incident which has nothing to do with the so-called "off the field incidents" that they were trying to use in taking the "revenge" angle story. Not a very nice way to eulogize someone IMO. After spygate happened we all saw how the glare of the national media can be infuriating when malicious so I can really sympathize with how angry Redskins fans are at ESPN etc. right now.

Two of the four have confessed, and it was random.

I' so glad that Someone will pay for what they did. I hope that the court systems don't mess this up

Re: Not Pats but NFL: Arrests made in Taylor killing

That they get the right persons is what is MOST important....because sometimes they will just grab anyone and pin things on them...senseless is just the beginning of it...

What exactly does "random" mean? They may not have been trying to kill him, but it was his "brother-in-law" still. (The brother of his sister's boyfriend. He'd been at the house multiple times, at a birthday party, and mowing the lawn...)

Some of ESPN's coverage (as usual) was pathetic. They put together this little video covering his troubles off & on the field.

What really pissed me off about the video was their making Taylor's hit on Brian Moorman in the pro bowl seem like one of those troubling moments.

It's moments like that when I wonder if they employ editors at ESPN.

Probably not. ESPN isn't a news organization anymore, its entertainment TV.

People who did it saying they didn't mean to do it
... isn't particularly persuasive.
If you were on an assignment to kill ... and they caught you ...
would you say?, Oh Yeah I Went There To Kill That Guy I Killed !

Taylor and longtime girlfriend, Jackie Garcia, were awakened early Monday by loud noises at Taylor's home, .... Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps in the bedroom for protection, .... then someone broke through the bedroom door and fired two shots, one missing and one hitting Taylor in the upper leg. ....

This story is inconsistent with a random break-in of a home believed to be vacant.
The burglary drill is they break in at night and get to keep whatever they remove from DOWNSTAIRS.
The homeowner can listen all s/he wants, but must stay upstairs.
If you come down, then they kill you.
That's only fair. They gave you your chance. But you eyeballed them.

After bursting into a bedroom you believe vacant ... why fire two shots?
That would be inefficient and draw attention to your fund-raising activities.

This is Florida, where most houses are ranches. There was no upstairs.

Has it been reported one way or another if it was a ranch? Even if most houses are raches, most people don't make millions every year like Taylor so he could afford a mansion if he wanted.

Re: Not Pats but NFL: Arrests made in Taylor killing

Two of the four have confessed, and it was random.

So, two guys who took part in the murder say it wasn't intentional and you actually believe them?

Hey, I got some Gulf Coast property in New Mexico.. You wanna buy it?

Burglars don't cut the PHONE line. Especially if they are trying to by-pass any potential security. Why? Because single dead line in an area is enough for any Security company do dispatch someone.

I believe they weren't charged with premeditated murder because they wanted to ensure the conviction and I'd be willing to bet it was a plea deal.

I would say 50% are ranches.. but there are PLENTY of 2 story houses in FL as well. I've seen plenty of them.. Been inside a few as well.

Fact is, though, you don't kick down a door and FIRE two shots if you believe the place to be vacant.

In fact, any SMART burglar takes off if they hear something.

Re: Not Pats but NFL: Arrests made in Taylor killing

This sounds like a bunch of BS to me. Who left the knife on Taylor's pillow??

I think the GF shot him and I'm sticking with my theory.

Re: Not Pats but NFL: Arrests made in Taylor killing

Don't quote me on this, but I think the cut phone lines was refuted.

Then again, there is another story every ten minutes down here, so who really knows...
