From the Department of Unimportant but Fun Records
Apparently the record is 21 players getting a TD in a season (achieved twice), making me curious about whether the Pats will reach it, especially absent injuries that we don't want.
The breakdown of TDs to date is:
Players w/ Offensive TDs:
T. Brady
Cassell
Maroney
Morris
Evans
Faulk
Eckel
Moss
Welker
Stallworth
Gaffney
Watson
K. Brady
Vrabel
14 total. Somewhat realistic possible futures would be Washington, T. Brown (in any phase of the game, actually), C. Jackson, or 3rd TE (Hochstein/O'Callaghan). Past that I think it's injury replacements or freak plays (e.g., OL recovering fumble for TD).
Players w/ return TDs:
Hobbs (KO, fumble)
Andrews (KO)
A. Thomas (INT)
Gay (fumble)
Colvin (fumble)
5 total. Obviously, there's upside here, specifically on the defense (the principal returners all have TDs already, in some phase of the game or other). Samuel is the first candidate. Others who've been shut out so far include all the safeties, all the DL, Bruschi, and Seau.
