How much do the "experts" make

I would think the more famous "experts" like Parcels and Aikmen make top dollar. I wonder what goons like Hodge and Jackson make?

I was actually debating this with my roommate a few days ago. I've been fed up with the ridiculous antics of the ESPN crowd for years, but this season it's been so over-the-top insane that I've been wondering how they could possibly earn a salary.

Anyway, I seem to recall, when ESPN did that reality show (which bombed, by the way...what an awful show) to find a new anchor, he got something in the low six-figure area (maybe something like $200K). I would imagine other anchors are closer to half a mil, which is where I'd place all the so-called 'experts'.

And unfortunately, I see no way that Skip Bayless makes anything less than $200,000, which almost makes me cry myself to sleep. He is so amazingly uninformed and obnoxious it hurts my head to think that he makes so much more than me, doing something that I'd LOVE to do, and he sucks at it.

But a lot of those guys were formal NFL players or coaches, it's really hard to get on TV otherwise unless you wrote a popular book or had a cult website or something.

Actually, he's quite good at what he does. His job is to say the opposite of the common opinion is, no matter how little sense his position makes. That's his role on ESPN... stir things up and make other analysts look smarter. Seriously.

I can deal with that, and clearly that's the case. But I guess my beef is that Bayless represents everything I hate about the media: obnoxious, loud, contrarian, uninformed, and sensational. Certainly that's his job, and in that respect he does one hell of a job. But it's more that ESPN employs someone for the sole purpose of being obnoxious and making everyone hate them (in the vein of the WWF, playing the 'good guy, bad guy' angle to death), and it bothers me to no end that they're successful with something like this.

I might be too much of a stat geek to deal with the mainstream media (it's probably my baseball, sabermetric side)...I'd love to have a channel dedicated to legitimate ANALYSIS, constant breakdowns of matchups, strength's, weaknesses, statistics, etc. I've had enough of the 30-second game recaps and back-and-forth scream sessions, and I'm 100% fed up with uninformed 'experts' doing their 'analysis' of games...what a joke.

EDIT: sorry to drag this OT, it's one of many subjects that will eventually lead to my stroke.

Kornheiser just indicated that he makes about $1M/yr on PTI for doing Monday night.

I think that $250-$300K for a regular expert with low name recognition and no side-gigs (eliminate Salisbury and Jaws) is a reasonable estimate.

I read somewhere (and I will have to search hard for a link) that Bayless makes more than $2 million dollars per year from ESPN.

If you're into in-depth analysis...

It may not be the case anymore, but when Bronson Arroyo was traded to the Reds, I looked up some Reds boards to see what they thought about it. One of the boards had some serious, serious analysis. Graphs, charts, in-depth studies with multiple factors, etc. I'm into stats and historical perspective, but this was beyond.

I'm not sure how into baseball or non-Boston based sports you are, but you referenced sabremetrics. Like I said, it's been awhile, so I don't know which board it was or if it's still like that. The analysis wasn't limited to Reds-centric debate, either. The Reds are generally out of by the break, so it seemed to me that talk was 50/50 Reds/General MLB.

But...if that's your bend I throw it out there.

I would say $100K to $400K for the ham and eggers, $500K to $1KK for the well-known, but non super-duper-superstars. Those guys like Berman and Madden and Michaels could be at $2KK to $3KK.
