Hi, for my Xmas present from my wife we are going to the Jets game (I live in Tampa now). I was going to fly into PVD and rent a car and stay outside Boston but now I'm thinking I could just fly into Boston, stay in the city and not bother renting a car and ride the T.

Anyways I never rode the commuter rail to a Pats game when I lived in Boston. Can anyone tell me how close the station is to the stadium? I don't remember ever seeing it. My wife is already going to be cold going to the game, how is the overall experience of riding the commuter rail back and forth? I know the traffic sucks so it seems like an attractive option since our hotel is right next to the T.

There's a special train that runs out of South Station (and one out of Providence) that go directly to the field. There's no station at the field, the two trains just stop at the field and sit there until a half-hour after the game ends when they each head back.

It's a great way to get to the game and back...I hate traffic. Plus it's fun because there's some comraderie on the ride in and it's a big party on the way back if/when they win.

The "station" is right near the stadium. It's actually not an official station, it's just a stretch of tracks that the train stops on right near the stadium. It's only used for Patriots games. Nice thing about the train is that it leaves the stadium 30 minutes after the end of the game, so if the game goes into OT, the train waits. But you do miss out on tailgating.

Oh, you can't leave anything on the train, and there are lots of things you can't bring into the stadium, so make sure you leave the brass knuckles and such at home.

Oh thats cool, it just sits there waiting? Is it a long walk?

Is it overcrowded? I mean once you buy a ticket you have a seat both ways right?

You'll end up standing in a boistrous crowd on the train. It may take up to 15 minutes to get from your seat to the train if you wait untill the game ends and everyone else has stayed too. Very crowded exiting the stadium.

A few minutes, you'll definately have enough time to get to the stadium by kickoff and enough time to get to the train after the game ends.

The times I took it, it was pretty full but not overcrowded, everyone had seats. Technically buying a ticket doesn't guarantee you a seat (commuter rails trains have standing room, too).

In my two games at Gillette, I've taken the T once. Highly recommended, especially if you're an out-of-towner like me and didn't bring your tailgate stuff with you.

Regards,
Chris
