OT: Taylor was straight up murder?

We noted yesterday that there is talk in league circles that Redskins safety Sean Taylor was murdered by a former friend.

Today Cardinals cornerback Antrel Rolle, who has known Taylor since they were small children and who played with Taylor at the University of Miami, said that is his belief.

"This was not the first incident," Rolle said, per the Associated Press. "They've been targeting him for three years now."

"They say it was a burglary. It absolutely was not a burglary," Rolle continued. "Down South, where we're from, there were many people talking to Sean, a lot of jealousy, a lot of angry people.

"Sean, he had a large group of friends, and he no longer hung out with those friends, so you never know where this came from."

Rolle's suspicion seems to contradict what Miami police spokesman Robert Parker said today. Parker said police believe Taylor's killing was "more like a random event," adding, "We have no reason to think this was anything other than a burglary or a robbery involving an intruder."

It is sad that this kid really started to mature and it's possible his past caught up with him. There is just no good in this story. I feel bad for the family and team more and more.

That Whitlock column was a good one. I gained a small amount of respect for him for writing it.

That being said it doesn't sound like someone was trying to kill Taylor. Why shoot him in the leg/groin and not in the head or chest? Pure speculation but it sounds more like someone was trying to teach him a lesson and take away his livelihood. Either way it's tragic beyond words.

While I'll wait for some official word on this case, I personally think this was not a "burglary gone wrong." Honestly, any robber would have to know who's house that was, why in the hell would a robber choose to target SEAN TAYLOR'S house? This is a guy who waved a gun at a guy in a bar, beat the **** out of a guy, etc. This is not a house to target, I would expect Sean to have a gun in his house, why choose to rob him of all people, there's got to be way easier targets.

But if the object of the mission was to murder Taylor as was discussed then surely the assassin wouldn't have left to chance that he did the job properly. A wounded target is an easy target for an assassin, professional shot or not.

Further, Taylor was on probation which forbid him having any firearms in his possession. If this was a targeted hit then I"m sure those involved knew that Taylor was very likely to be unarmed.

I really really like Jason Whitlock. He speaks his mind about race, and he does it with an educated, even keeled approach. One of Whitlocks priorities (my assumption, not his stated) is advancing black people. Read between the lines in that article. It says "You, the young impressionable black reader, are in control of your future. Dress like a grown man and get an education. 'Keeping it real' is not the way to be". That is a message all young impressionable people can learn from, but he aims it at young blacks (imo).

I think Jason Whitlock consistently talks about race in an educated and healthy manner. I respect him for that.

Two points.

1. You don't break into someone's house and shoot them to "teach them a lesson."

2. There was another shot fired into the wall. This indicates that the shooter was not the best shot. This wasn't a sniper shooting to wound, this was 2 shots into a dark room with intent to kill.

I agree with you about Whitlock. I've always seen him as a sincere, caring guy who uses his intelligence very well in these kinds of tough topics. He even used a simile (analogy?) that you could say points to himself. I wish he would find a way to lose weight, but some people just seem to be destined to be overweight.
No, we don't know for certain the circumstances surrounding Taylor's death. I could very well be proven wrong for engaging in this sort of aggressive speculation. But it's no different than if you saw a fat man fall to the ground clutching his chest. You'd assume a heart attack, and you'd know, no matter the cause, the man needed to lose weight.

Hot buglaries are kind of rare in the south. Most people are armed.

Were there other hot burglaries nearby? If not, then it seems like he was targeted.

Why didn't they finish him off? Maybe they freaked when he came out with a machete.

The house was broken into before..was anything taken?
