Good read. Nice to hear from one so close to the source.

That is an interesting insight into TBs reactions while the draft is going down - a defining moment for our QB - and great for us. No wonder he was pissed - Spergon Wynn? anyone ever hear of that dude?

Oh man, I love this line!:

"They are still eight games from (19-0). You can't win eight games on Sunday."

He played for Minnesota for a while as well, as their #3. He started a game when Culpepper and the #2 (can't recall) went down to injury. Of course, the Vikes had their ***es handed to them that day.

Great article! Thanks for posting!

love the competitiveness as a kid, i've also read how tom used to break tv's by throwing videogame controllers when he lost.

some kids want to win, others just want to play.

Gee, when I used to do that my mom just thought it meant that I had anger issues and she sent me to a shrink.

Who knew?

I would like to know which teams called and said they'd draft him and then DIDN'T.

The awesomest part about the 2000 draft was that our hated rivals, the Steelers, could have had Tom Brady but preferred a different backup QB instead, Tee Martin. How's that for an alternate reality?

I think he was most pissed off at the 49ers, since he grew up right down the freeway from them.

It's strange that his work ethic, will to win, leadership ability, etc., were so evident right from the getgo with the Patriots, even before Bledsoe went down, and those qualities must have been evident at Michigan also, that nobody drafted him higher. I guess his "skinniness" probably won out as the #1 characteristic that stopped NFL coaches from pulling the trigger. The other day, I looked at one of my Patriots DVDs, the 2001 season with SB 36, and he was considerably thinner then than now, especially in the arms.

I always laugh whenever anyone refers to him as "Tommy." I know all his family and friends do, but it just brings to mind a little kid, not Tom Brady.

Anyway, good article. I've never heard that draft day story before, and how Belichick didn't get to speak to Brady himself because his family couldn't find him.

Nice piece, but what is it about Boston fans that they can't let athletes who happen to be out in public alone?

Well look at which teams drafted QB's in the 3rd through 6th rounds and you'll have your answer (or at least a guess).

Wynn plays for Toronto in the CFL.

I'd start by looking at the big "running up the score" games... :)
