Interesting! So you're drafting 3 ILBs and hoping somebody sticks?

I like your top few picks a lot -- Bell is my early IDOO (Irrational Draft Obsession Object), I wouldn't be surprised to see him climb a la David Harris. But given that BB has never developed a single rookie ILB, I'd look for Bell to team with a vet FA or two.

Not crazy enough for me... I like it though, nice job. My comments are not slams, just observations.

My comments
- it is well known that the Patriots don't draft CB or LBs on Day 1, you broke the Cardinal rule... about time that rule was broken
- Flowers seems to be a reach, especially if the pick stays in the top 5
- Bell may not be there at pick 63, his profile seems solid, it will be interesting to see him during the workouts
- 3 ILBs, we need them but 3 in a single draft seems like a lot, I would consider replacing one of them with a WR

A lot of nice corners in this draft class (potentially, depending on declarations). I like Reggie Smith and Justin King today.

You can't.

Name a draft where they've paid 7% of their cap to their first pick. You can't.

Besides, they're low round picks. Almost any position you'd name would be a waste, no room on the roster.

I think it's wildly improbable too, but weird things can happen in the lower rounds. Think of how the Pats drafted 3 OLs this year despite having pretty good depth on the line (and not one made the team).

Yeah, it's bordering on bizarre at this point. They've signed premium vets (Colvin, Thomas); mid-range young vets (Vrabel, Beisel); late-career vets (Phifer, Brown, Seau); and day-two rookies. The one thing they've NEVER tried is a premium rookie. I'm mighty curious what will happen if they finally do.

There is no doubt in my mind that BB would take a LB early, even in the top 5, if one comes along that fits the Patriots model.

1.) Intelligent
2.) Uber Instinctive and Disciplined. (Free lansing is strictly prohibited)
3.) Super high character and a mega love of football
4.) Excellent tackler
5.) Above average size to take on interior OL, FB and TE.
6.) Functional playing speed
7.) Experience in the 3-4 because BB does not like spending day 1 picks that he has to "project" to a different position in the pros.

And then if a LB has that, he still has to be available and not a reach when the Pats pick.

I have not seen but a couple of guys that almost fit the profile exactly, Carpenter, Hawk and Wimbley and neither lasted until the Pats picked.

I agree, trhey would take the right player. I don't think there are any LBs worth a top 5 pick in this draft. I think they liked DJ Williams as well but Denver took him and we stole Wilfork.

- Wilson was a CB in college converted to a FS
- Merriweather was a Safety in college, now he is a ... while I am not sure what he is...

Though I think it's more true with DE to OLB conversions and OLB to ILB conversions.

I thought the same thing, but from what I have read James L. and Rey M. are staying for their senior season. Jasper Brinkley injured his knee and is applying for a red-shirt season. That leaves Bell, and unless the Patriots trade back I don't see him fitting their value chart.

Yeah, this draft looked terrific from a distance but a bunch of the juniors seem to be staying in school. (Come on guys, education is overrated! Who needs a degree? )

Personally, I don't believe anything about kids saying they're staying in school. It shouldn't be an issue right now, and they're right to say they'll return.

I think Leman can play. A good sleeper is Thornhill at Michigan St. Both guys should be second day picks.

Personally, I don't believe anything about kids saying they're staying in school. It shouldn't be an issue right now, and they're right to say they'll return.

If Oklahoma beats Missouri in the Big 12, Ohio St. could play West Virginia for the National Title. If Ohio St were to win, I don't think there's any doubt Son of Animal goes pro.
