[I'm only half joking here: when was the last time the Pats made what looked at the time like an "obvious" first-round draft pick?]
Most draft pundits had the Pats taking Maroney as well. RB was a need at that time.
I seem to remember Manny Lawson being the choice of most draft pundits. I only remember one draft site having Maroney, as he wasn't expected to be on the board then.
If we drafted McFadden, we could have two feature backs standing behind McDaniels watching our spread offense march up and down the field.

Yeah, I did see Maroney on an occasional mock for us but he wasn't remotely close to an expected pick.Um... not that I saw. The talk was all Chad Greenway, Bobby Carpenter and Manny Lawson. We had Corey Dillon at RB and Monty Beisel at ILB.
I was a huge Lawson fan in that draft (along with Wimbley) and last draft I was a huge Willis fan. Funny that both are with the 49ers and we own their next first round pick that we got for a guy that some people here liked, Staley.
I think the closer our "percieved needs" for the Pats are to what BB considers the "actual need" the easier it becomes to figure out where BB is leaning.
The harder part, when we are usually picking in the 20's and 30's, is hoping one of those athletes falls to the Pats in the draft.
