Ive never heard such ridiculous hysteria in my life, from both Patriot fans AND the national media.
OOOOOOOH, the Patriots had a close game.

Check out the 1972 Dolphins schedule and scores sometime. They didnt win every game by 30 points. There were many close calls. The 1978 Steelers lost 2 games. So did the 1989 49ers. The 1985 Bears got creamed by the Dolphins.

I watched the 1986 Celtics blow a 25 point lead on Christmas Day to the Knicks.

The Eagles get paid too, and the Patriots defense had an off night. Oh well, a win is a win is a win. We are 11-0.

So true. That great 49ers 1989 team, in addition to the two losses won games by, 6, 4, 4, and 3 respectively.

The 1979 Steelers, in addition to the 4 losses, won games by 3, 3, 4, and 3.

The 1972 Dolphins, while playing opposing teams with a .396 winning percentage won games by 2, 1, and 4 in the regular season. Then, 6, 4, and 7 in the playoffs.

The Patriots are 11 and 0, win all but two of those games by 17 or more, and the story line is "do we now have a blue print on how to beat the Patriots?". Hey, they gotta write and report about something I guess.

Can we be so fortunate that rest of the NFL thinks they might?

Lord knows that Belichick never makes any changes or adjustments. He's sooooo predictable.

/sarcasm off

Some squeakers from the '85 Bears:

9/8 Bucs W 38-28 Come-from-behind.
9/19 Vikings W 33-24 Best. Comeback. Ever.
10/6 Bucs W 27-19 Tough Tampa game #2.
11/3 Packers W 16-10
12/8 Colts W 17-10 Squeaker vs. Colts.
12/14 Jets W 19-6 Another close one.

Including their loss, that's 7 games for the "Greatest Team Ever" that were close. Puts things in perspective. They did romp through the playoffs though:
1/5 Giants W 21-0
1/12 Rams W 24-0
1/26 Patriots W 46-10

There is a truly bizarre thing going on with the New England Patriots this year. They are being scrutinized, and analyzed, in ways like no other team before. The point raised here is an example. Go undefeated? Score more points than any team in history? Have a larger margin of victory than any team in history? Have the best year ever by a quarterback? Uh, yeah....I guess they're pretty good. It's a joke. Just keep winning, and history will be the judge.

Well, for starters, you could check out the 1888 Yale Bulldogs:

Code:
Wesleyan	76 - 0
Rutgers 65 - 0
AT Penn 34 - 0
AT Wesleyan 46 - 0
AT Amherst 39 - 0
AT Williams 30 - 0
MIT 68 - 0
Stevens College 69 - 0
Penn 54 - 0
AT Crescent AC	28 - 0
Amherst 70 - 0
Wesleyan 105 - 0
Princeton	10 - 0

That looks to me like a march of domination.

Or, if you feel a 10 point margin of victory is still too close, check out the 1918 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers:

Code:
Camp Logan 47-9
Denver 48-6
Colorado College	48-6
Northern Colorado 41-0

And the infamous 1932 Colgate Red Raiders:

Code:
St. Lawrence 41-0
Case 27-0
Niagara 47-0
Lafayette 35-0
New York U 14-0
Penn State 31-0
Mississippi College	32-0
Syracuse 16-0
Brown 21-0

Okay, any professional teams in the past century?

The '99 Rams were exposed in back-back games(against the Bucs in the NFCCG, and then the Titans in the Super Bowl)-but somehow, **** Vermeil got his first ring.

I don't think Vermeil and his team gave a ****e how they did it, b/c getting their championship ring is the ultimate goal.

The 1942 Chicago Bears' season:

Code:
Green Bay	44-28
Cleveland	21-7
Chicago 41-14
New York	26-7
Philadelphia	45-14
Detroit 16-0
Brooklyn	35-0
Green Bay	38-7
Detroit 42-0
Cleveland	47-0
Chicago 21-7

Re: Exactly what team in Sports History marched through a year without any close game

Or how about the '86 Giants team that went 14-2 and won the Super Bowl? Parcells/BB coached that team.

There were games when their pass D got TORCHED(including their opener at TX Stadium where Laurence Taylor got schooled on Dallas' game winning TD drive).

Why are we having this conversation? The only thing that matters is whoever holds up the Lombardi Trophy at the end. Look at Baltimore last year-their D was FLAWLESS, but they made an early exit in the playoffs.

Re: Exactly what team in Sports History marched through a year without any close game

You left out the final game. - Lost to Washington Redskins 6-14
You're right. That was a postseason game. The stats I looked at were for seasons.

Re: Exactly what team in Sports History marched through a year without any close game

What about Kobayashi? He didn't lose a competition or even come close to losing until he had to have his jaw wired shut.

Not to mention the Harlem Globetrotters......hello
