Defensive end Gaines Adams (the No. 4 overall selection) to a six-year, $45.8 million contract that includes $18.5 million worth of guaranteed money.

So basically the #4 pick would be slotted into about 7M per year. That is considerably less money than the #2 pick would get. Calvin Johnson, the #2 overall pick, signed a 6 year 64M deal with a 27.2M signing bonus.

So SF winning that bizarre game over the Cards actually did us a favor in a way.

(Woops, please move this to draft forum.)

Why don't you and McFadden get a room?

If McFadden is taht good...u think hell drop to 4???
im asking cuz i have no idea, but it sound to me like McFadden is this years CJ....the best player in the draft, but a QB will go before him...

so, where is McFadden predicted to go?

Won't be there at #4.

After last night I'm now on the "trade way down and save the money to try re signing Asante" bandwagon.

I was looking at the top 4 teams.

#1 Miami - Ronnie Brown
#2 Jets - Thomas Jones
#3 Rams - Steven Jackson
#4 Patriots - Maroney

Teams 1 and 3 already have franchise RBs.
The Jets are the only real threat to take McFadden.
So if the Jets pass on Mcfadden, which they might since they draft pretty badly.
Would there then be any objections to taking McFadden at the #4 slot?

See above reasoning. This year 2 of the 3 teams drafting above the Pats already have their franchise RBs in place.
So it's possible McFadden could slip to #4, which would make him a steal imo.

Who knows what Brown will be like when he comes back, but I don't think Miami will take McFadden unless the plan on letting Brown walk.

I really don't see McFadden lasting until 4. Too many teams will try to move up to get a franchise type running back.

Well it's hard to project who will try to leapfrog the Patriots into say slot #2 or #3. That's a draft day warroom kind of scenario. I'm just saying that right now, sitting at #4, assuming nobody leapfrogs us, doesn't that make McFadden an excellent value?

Keep in mind that those salaries are slotted both by # and position. McFadden will get a much better deal than that of Gaines Adams.

Did you watch the game last night? We need some new blood on Defense.
I hope we trade down and get 2 players such as CB and LB

Did you watch our total lack of running game against the Eagles?
A one dimensional offense is not going to get it done in the NFL.
The Patriots barely held off the 5-6 Eagles.
That's what happens when your offense becomes 1 dimensional.

McFadden would add another dimension to this explosive offense, and make it even harder to stop come cold weather/playoff time.

Given how I keep naming an elite CB as one of the few options I'd spend a top-5 Pats pick on, it sounds reasonable to me. Samuel money=#4 draft pick money. If you can trade from #4 to the #12-14 range, pick up a second rounder, sign Samuel and Moss (goodbye, Stallworth) and still have 4 picks in the #12-#70 range to play with, life looks good.

If we can re-sign Samuel, we still have Hobbs, draft one of the Jenkins CB after a trade down that would leave us with Samuel, Hobbs, Jenkins at CB with Harrison, Sanders, Meriweather at Safety which is a good group and young except for Harrison. I left off Gay and Wilson, just assuming that we can't re-sign everyone. If it all played out like that I'd be fine and we'd still have a #2 and two #3s for RT and LB. Plus we'd get something for the trade down. If we don't sign Samuel . . .

Well thanks for totally sidetracking this thread into Samuel talk. I think the discussion for that could have gone under it's own heading.

The fact remains that McFadden right now looks like a bona fide stud at RB. And if he slips through the cracks to #4, he presents an excellent value at a position the Pats could stand to upgrade.

If McFadden would have been in the 2007 NFL Draft he probably would have been drafted over Oklahoma's heralded running back Adrian Peterson, he has better hands and is more durable.

McFadden has been nothing short of spectacular the last two years with the Razorbacks, as a freshman in 2005 he shattered the record books by rushing for 1,113 yards and 11 TDs. He was only the second freshman in SEC history, after Herschel Walker, to gain over 1000 yards. Last year as a sophomore (2006) he won the Doak Walker Award and finished second in the Heisman voting while rushing for 1,620 yards and 14 TDs with a 5.9 yards per carry average.

The next Herschel Walker? Yes please. Send him to New England!

Better yet, trade him for 50 draft picks and stockpile the dynasty, ALA Dallas.

Another stupid redundant post by you.

How many SBs did Herschel walker win? How many was he in?

He did nothing substantial in the pros. But he was much better than McFadden in college...bigger, ran over people.

I like how PatChick handed you your ass on the question of whether BB would "take 50 cents on the trade value chart" and you put your tail between your legs and didn't come back. :singing:

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
BB/SP are not going to give up on Mareony for McFadden they are going to trade down to a team that wants him (if he is even there) and then they are going to trade down again and try to stockpile picks like they do EVERY YEAR. I am so sick of the McFadden talk.

It's preety clear you DIDN'T watch that game cause then you would have know THEY COME OUT THROWING. I am sure (casue i accually watched the game) that if they wanted to run they would have cause they did later on in the game.
