When they showed the replay with that yellow thing on each side of the posts to signify the goal posts extending into the air, the circle for where the ball was showed it as being good as far as I can tell as it was no where in the yellow.

Anyone else notice that?

Re: Was Ghosts kick good?

Yes it was good. It's his fault for making it close enough to call bad but it was good. If a FG goes over the goalpost, all that is needed is for any part of the ball to go over the post.

Re: Was Ghosts kick good?

It looked close to me, what I want to know is where was this "technology" a few Sundays ago?? This kick, IMO, was a bit closer, but AV's wasn't that far off either.

What did you guys think of Gaffney's catch?? Looked like his shin (not knee) was down in bounds. Regardless, I was surprised they did not review that play. Must be some conspiracy or something.

As near as I can tell on that play, after he caught the pass, one of his feet clearly came down (flat) in-bounds. I could have sworn he dragged his other foot through the dirt in-bounds as well.

Yeah, Andy Reid is in on the conspiracy.

Re: Was Ghosts kick good?

Neither me nor my wife could figure out why Madden kept on about that catch. It was clear as day to me, Gaffney got both toes in, had posession and never came close to losing posession through the catch. It didn't need to be reviewed but if it had been there is no way it would be overturned unless I completely missed something.

Hard to argue conspiracy when it was the right call in the first place.

I did not think the Pats hurried to the line, so I suspect the reply officials thought it clear enough.

The FG was good.

No replay needed on Gaffney. He got both FEET in. Doesn't matter that the knee/shin landed out of bounds since both feet touched down first.

It was funny after two replays showing how wrong they were Madden just backtracked into something like "well they review it every other time, don't they?"
Which I guess is true, but when the right call is made, that's not a problem.

Who gives a rat's ass about Vinatieri and what he does? Gaffney's catch was unquestionably a touchdown. Watch the replay next time. You're really irritating, I don't care how many posts you've racked up here, you're a troll. Be gone.

He did. His toe dragged a big puff of dirt/dust into the air.

Still, I wished they'd review these kinds of things in the final two minutes. When you take the red flag off the coach, you have the responsibility to review anything he might have challenged, IMO.

OTOH, I wholeheartedly agree with this. I saw an ad for TROOL-BE-GONE on TV the other night. You had to order by midnight, but if I see the ad again, I will buy Ian some for XMAS.

Yeah, Andy Reid is in on the conspiracy.

I think maybe Reid couldn't throw the flag in that circumstance because it was under 2 minutes.

I didn't understand what Madden and Michaels were blathering about. Two feet equals TD.

On a field goal over the post, I thought the entire ball needed to pass inside where the post would extend.

Agree on the TD - definitely a catch. I got mad listening to M&M questioning it.

On the FG, it looked as though the entire ball (circled) was inside the posts in that graphic. Of course, it would have been a moot point without the Moss PI call.

Re: Was Ghosts kick good?

Yes. Yes it was.

Re: Was Ghosts kick good?

i thought gaffney had both feet in and join those who were surprised that madden questioned it.

i couldn't tell whether the FG was good or not, but it was way too close for that short a distance as the days grow shorter and the stakes grow larger

Re: Was Ghosts kick good?

i was in the end zone a little to the right of the uprights - from my view i thought the kick was good, i was pretty surprised when the refs ruled it a miss.

Both of his feet were already down, so his shin did not need to be in bounds.
As for the kick, who knows. That might be something that needs to be reviewable.

Re: Was Ghosts kick good?

I didn't think the Gaffney play was that close..there was plenty of time for the Replay official to call for a review..didn't happen..no need...not sure what Madden and Micheals were looking at...true that Madden backtracked..
As far as the Field goal went, I am not sure at all...where is some kind of technology on these things..even a goal post extension...really..the league is pretty poor on it all..ALTHOUGH it should have been a TD...no way that was even close to offensive PI..madden is still looking..

Here's a helpful hint: when deciding whether or not a catch is good, try to take the receiver's feet into account.

Re: Was Ghosts kick good?

On the TD catch, both Madden and Michaels sounded like fools strongly advocating for a replay on an obvious catch - even after they had seen the replay a few times. Just remember to take this into account when considering their comments about the Moss (non) PI. I understand it was a questionable call, but the announcers blow the analysis way too often to use their comments to strengthen your case.
