So far, all I've seen is a few posts lambasting the Patriots playcalling and the usual "the sky is falling" nonsense. Well guess what. The Patriots played pretty well, and their playcalling was fine. What was especially impressive was the play of the Eagles. I hate to say it (b/c I hate the Eagles), but they played out of their minds tonight.

The Philly defensive line put solid pressure on Brady for most of the night. Sheppard and the rest of the secondary did a fine job containing Moss. The Eagles defense certainly didn't play GREAT, but it put the Eagles in a position to win.

Additionally, I think any neutral observer has to give credit to how A.J. Feeley played tonight. This was probably his best game as a pro, and it wasn't just luck. He made several great throws, identifying the open reciever quickly and efficiently. Quite a performance, and the stats back him up.

Believe me, I hate the Eagles. But I have to give them credit here. They came in huge underdogs and gave the Pats a legit fight. Why do we have to blame this close VICTORY on McDaniels, BB, or any of the players? Guess what -- the Eagles played their best game of the season. THAT'S the reason this was so close.

Yet the Pats still won, which should be a testament to how solid this team is, rather than an excuse to start blaming people who shouldn't be blamed.

The Eagles played as well as they can, and played the Pats as tough as any team this year possibly could. They deserve a lot of credit, on both sides of the ball. That said, Ellis Hobbs and Nick Kaczur should be ashamed of themselves. As putrid as they come.

I thought Kaczur in particular was terrible. That play where he let Brady get anhilated with the full body slam in the first half should have earned him a spot on the bench.

Yes, there's no question that Kaczur muffed that play. But overall, Brady had ample time to throw. I didn't think Kaczur or the rest of the line played all that poorly, actually. The Eagles were pressuring most of the game (in mainly obvious passing formations without extra blockers), and Brady still had time to throw.

I guess I don't understand why everyone is bashing our O-line. Maybe when everyone wakes up tomorrow they will realize it wasn't that bad.

Not quite. The posts that belong in the visting forum are the ones bashing McDaniels, BB, our O-line, our defense, and the rest of our team for no good reason. If I wanted that I'd go to the Jets forum.

Didn't Matt Light have two false start penalties, one of which stopped the clock in the waning minutes and make a 3rd-and-1 a 3rd-and-6? Inexcusable at home. :enranged:

Look, it's a win, and that's great, but the Patriots did almost everything they could through three and a half quarters to give this thing away. It was tough to watch. Credit the Eagles, sure; still, this has to go down as the Patriots' worst game of the season. wouldn't you agree?

Look, it's a win, and that's great, but the Patriots did almost everything they could through three and a half quarters to give this thing away. It was tough to watch. Credit the Eagles, sure; still, this has to go down as the Patriots' worst game of the season. wouldn't you agree?

Yes, I would agree that this was the Pats' worst game (and they still won anyway). I would agree that Light had a couple of idiotic penalties, Kaczur didn't play his best game, and the defense could have played a bit tighter (though, really, they actually played the game you would expect -- forcing A.J. Feeley of all people to beat you).

But what I find disconcerting is people on this board crying and moaning that the Patriots had a poor game plan or bad coaching. THE EAGLES PLAYED WELL, PEOPLE. And we still won. But don't get on your high horse and start calling out the coaching staff. We had a GOOD game plan (the heavy 4/5 wide passing scheme WORKED), and the only reason we didn't run away with this is that the Eagles played their best game of the season.

Call me the anti-NEM. Our coaching staff was fine tonight.

I agree. My only concerns involved the onside kick (hell, I didn't expect it, but the coaches should have, right??) and pass coverage. It seems like one switch-up to covering inside routes would have resulted in a turnover or at least have prevented a TD.

Overall, though, you're right: Philly executed well for about 55 minutes.

At various times throughout the second half, my companions heard me exclaim,
"I just can't say too much for the Eagles!"
They played splendidly.

So did the Patriots ... although not at the mystical, levitating level
we were becoming accustomed to this season.

A very good intimation of our team's mortality

False start penalties at home are usually the result of the defense owning an offensive lineman who tries to get a jump.

I never subscribed to the "they-didn't-beat-us-we-beat-ourselves" b.s.

No one is trying to say the Eagles are the 85 Bears, only that they played a terrrific game.

And they did. I think part of the reason it was the Pats worse game was the top-notch play of the Iggles.

Man up. Give credit where it is due.

Hats off the to Eagles. They gave us more trouble and came closer to beating us that any other team, including the Colts.
