The public relations staff at ESPN has passed along some Patriots-specific comments from analysts on the network's NFL Countdown program today:

# Tom Jackson -- "It’s potentially the best offense that I’ve ever seen. I still have some question marks about the defense."

# Keyshawn Johnson -- "This is actually the best team that I have ever seen with my own eyes."

# Emmitt Smith -- "This is the best team that I have seen assembled since the free agency era has begun. But, I think about my '92-'93 Dallas Cowboys … I don’t see that kind of depth on this doggone Patriots team."

I worked at ESPN years ago - they were tools then, they're tools now

Tom Jackson being an idiot as usual.

Keyshawn being the man as usual.

I'll take Emmit's comment as tounge in cheek.

I don't know why thye passed this junk along. Their opinions are null to me. They contradict themselves and they should not pass garbage along.

The Patriots Defense hates its coach!

A friend i went to high school with worked at a company that worked with ESPN to make those "top 10" crappy shows that they show on ESPN classic.

Now she works at ESPN.

she said that at the gym she's seen Michael Irvin working out and grunting like a moron and talked about how the guys walk down the halls in that place like they just saved the World.

you know, they walk around like jeff Goldblum and Will Smith at the end of Independence Day

i didnt watch the show today but read somewhere that jackson was question about the whole humble pie business when brady says he wants to kill teams.
What does jackson want..really ? i dont get it.he is just there to offer a -ve opinion.

Yup, that sounds about right....

Stupid stuff. But can we at least stop the stupid "their offense is the greatest ever, but I can't call them the greatest team ever because their defense isn't the greatest ever" crap. In most people's eyes, the 1985 Bears are the best team ever, yet did they have the greatest defense and offense of all time? NO! While the Patriot's may not have the greatest defense in history, it's still top ten in almost every category. Don't know about the "questions."

It wasn't tongue in cheek. I think he was only talking about the depth, but it would take an analysis of the personnel to figure it out.

I don't know who they had for a backup QB but he couldn't have been worse than Cassell. There's one gaping hole in our depth. I happen to like our depth, but I think it's thin at QB, LB and maybe our backup NT isn't what it could be.

In the past were were thinner at safety because of injuries, but having Wilson as depth now is pretty good. Maybe at corner we are so deep, but I like Gay, and think he could start on other teams.

I agree. It's freaking ridiculous - and it also implies that the Patriots defense is not only not "the greatest ever" (which I agree with), but that it's not all that good, that it's somehow being carried by the offense. This defense, make no mistake, is VERY good. And they're getting better.

Whatever, who cares. They don't get it. They will. Yawn.
