this evening (night here...) a W against PHI could give us allready in November the Afc East Crowd

after 11 games playied that should be a fantastic success

imho only BUF has been an average team in our Division this year; Miami has been a dysaster (probably expected) and NYG one of the NFL disappointments

result: end November we could clinch allready the Division

If Buffalo loses this afternoon (against Jacksonville, a likely possibility), then the Pats will already be division champs before tonight's game even starts.

Of course it matters. If Pittsburgh wins out and we also lose this game and, say, the Giants, we are no longer the #1 seed.

If Buffalo loses this afternoon (against Jacksonville, a likely possibility), then the Pats will already be division champs before tonight's game even starts.

That's the scenario I envision. Buff has little chance against Jax. I'd like to think we'd do it ourselves tonight, it's just not likely.

However, it'll be pretty impressive to clinch the division before completing 65% of the season :singing:

Of course it matters. If Pittsburgh wins out and we also lose this game and, say, the Giants, we are no longer the #1 seed.

Actually, we would still be the 1 seed. We would need to lose at least 3 games for us to not be the one seed. We win the tie-breaker with Indy and Pittsburgh already had 3 losses. If we lose 2 games and Pitt and Indy win out, Pitt is #3, and we win the tie-breaker with Indy.

I believe 2-3 teams have clinched in week 11 (I'm omitting bye weeks since they are all done).

I do not know if a team ever locked it up after 10 games without taking the field (or notwithstanding a week 11 loss).

I mentioned this last week. Buffalo is currently losing and Jax just picked off Losman. If Buffalo loses, we are division champs.

This is insignificant except only in how early this happened. Is this the earliest division clinching in NFL history, or at least since the merger? Otherwise this was a foregone conclusion of the highest order.

HFA might not be clinched until mid December. As for a first round bye, if we are 13-0 after beating Pittsburgh, that would eliminate all except Jacksonville and Indianapolis as contenders for the top two seeds. Should Jax lose a game along the way (we don't play Jax and I don't want to get into strength of victory and all that crap three weeks before the fact), by that time we should have a first round bye wrapped up (should Jax not lose a game by that time, they could still tie us at 13-3 and that's where the exotic tiebreakers would come into play). Jax being 10-3 in three weeks is not likely since next week they have to play at Indianapolis (and the week after we play PIT at home, Jax plays at PIT).

Again, here were talking "WHEN will we clinch" a 1st round bye, not "will we clinch".
