I was flippin through some AM in my car the other day in Texas lookin for some sports talk radio. A couple of rednecks were talking about the Pats sayin the only team that could beat them now is the 1927 Yankees. WTF?? They explained that if the Pats go undefeated and win the superbowl they will replace the '27 Yankees as The Greatest American Pro Sports Team Ever in history. WOW! I thought is that who is thought of as the best ever the '27 Yankees?? and The Pats are replacing them>? anyways made me smile at least...Yankees Suck again! haha

Yeah, Peter King came up with that gem in MMQB last week, and since he's an idiot other idiots understand him, and therefore all the idiots on talk radio (which is pretty much everyone on talk radio) have now ganked the idea.

One thing is for sure if the Pats go 19-0 it will be the greatest sports story in New England sports ever, and possibly the whole country.

I certainly can't think of an NFL team or a MLB yeam who deserves the title more than the 27 Yankees. Led the league in hitting, led the league in pitching. Six future Hall of Famers, led by Babe Ruth. Was the origin of the term "Murderer's Row". It is a huge compliment to the Pats to be mentioned in that company. But only history can make that judgement.

Peter King will be hearing from my lawyer, he stole this idea from me.

If the Pats continue on the pace they are on, they will be the greatest sports team of all time. This team would tear the 85 Bears apart, BB would eat Buddy Ryan and Ditka for lunch.

I think what the Pats are doing is more difficult than anything else in sports, its only been done once before and that was just 14 games. The 27 Yankees were great but a few other teams have won as many games as they did in a season (including the Mariners a few years ago).

I still stick with the 95-96 Bulls as the best BB team, 72-10 is amazing but they would have a battle with the 80's Celtics and Lakers teams.

Hockey, who gives a shyt.

I think if a statistician adjusted the Patriots margin of victory in comparison to the rest of the league and the history of the league and other sports it would come out as the most lopsided season in history.

.

Good team, no doubt, but for me it's the 85-86 Celtics all the way. Too much balance, depth, and defense for that Bulls team to handle.

Here's what the Senators' first baseman said about the 1927 Yankees after losing to them 21-1,

Those fellows not only beat you but they tear your heart out. I wish the season was over.

The 1927 Yankees obviously had no class and ran up the score.

Interesting comparison....

OK, now that I made my snarky point about running up the score ... it's sorta stupid to compare across sports, but the 1927 Yankees actually have some similarities to the Patriots. They had two of the greatest offensive players ever having career years - Ruth and Gehrig both had an OPS over 1.200, Ruth hit 60 HRs, and Gehrig had 175 RBIs - surrounded by a great collection of offensive talent, much like the Pats with Brady/Moss. The Yankees also had a defense that was very good (tops in the league).

The 1927 Yankees are probably the greatest team ever assembled in team sports. Essentially the same team destroyed the league the next year, too.

I hate runs almost as much as I hate points.

Runs and points are from the devil.

Assuming we could bring back the '27 Yankees, what sport would these teams play to settle this? It couldn't be Baseball or Football for obvious reasons, and there's the problem with the 20 man disparity in roster size.

Golf maybe?...

Nah, too much like Baseball.

Perhaps this?

I think the comparisons between the Brady/Moss patriots and "Murderers Row" Yanks have been around for awhile, and I dig it. The alignment of the factors that allow a team in any sport to be this dominant is such a rarity, happening on average every 80 years ;)

BTW, if the 2007 Pats deserve an asterisk than so do the 27' Yankees for playing against all-white teams and not allowing great negro players to play in MLB Baseball.

I was thinking of comparisons the other day on what teams in sports totally dominated the opponents. The one team that I came up with was the Laker team that won something like 32 straight games.

We'd kill em!! Who the hell is that fat bastard in RF going to cover?
I'll take an OF of Moss,Stallworth and K.Washington(he played minor league
baseball). Hard to hit it between them. Brady was scouted as a C. Do we have any decent pitchers?

Brady was drafted in high school by Montreal!

Nahhhh. If that happens, the next morning, the Boston Globe will probably have as its headlines some in depth story about the packing up of the Red Sox trucks for spring training.

LOL! Exactly. If Curt Schilling blows his nose it's a bigger story than Tom Brady going for the TD record. I hate the Globe.

Gostkowski would start game 1, probably drill bambino in the ass to send a message, not on the left side , not on the right side , but straight down the middle.

In baseball talk everyone relates to the '27 Yankees. The comparison would be valid provided the Pats go all the way.
