So what is it that we need to do to beat them .Of courser we will continue to do what we have done best but anyone have any technical insights on the eagles defense -their front 7, secondary etc ? Their offense seems to have moved the ball but not scored a lot of points. So anyone have any indepth info on this team. ? i havent watched philly much other than that blowout against the cowboys.

I profess no expertise at game planning, but I do have an opinion.

I think it likely that BB will target Westbrook as the Eagle's primary offensive strength.

If true, we may get to see how good our run defense is at this stage of the season. This, in sharp contrast to the Indy game, where the emphasis was on Goober's passing game, which clearly helped Adai (though he doesn't need any help!)

Should be interesting to watch. Since the Eagles were one of the teams that ran off at the mouth during the "much ado about camera incident", I'm thinking another trouncing on Sunday is in the making!

Go Pats. Bury them! :)

Show up.........

Have Vrabel grab McNabb by one arm and one leg and give him an "airplane ride" until he vomits. Don't forget to make the "vroom sounds", it enhances the effect.

I hear that the devious Belichick has stolen the Eagles game plan.

On offense, they plan to go to Brian Westbrook -- get this, by running and passing him the ball.

On defense, they plan to try to confuse and try many different blitzes.

So if the Pats win big, it's because they had the game plan.

You are right about how the Iggles will try to play the game. McNabb may not play, and if he does, he will not be as effective as he might otherwise be. So the down the field stuff may be limited. Westbrook is the key to the Philly offense. So BB will design a play to take him away, such as he did in SB 36 with Marshall Faulk.

On D, Philly will try to bring a lot of exotic looking blitzes and will always have extra pass rushers coming after Brady. This is due partly to the desire to get Tom to hurry his passes, and partly because the secondary is all kinds of banged up. They will want to cover this weakness up by not giving Brady the time to throw. So look for screens, draws, swing passes, and such to get them to back off. Also look for a bunch of intermediate crossing routes taking advantage of the holes and mismatches that will be created by the attempted increased pressure.

are they banged up ? i thought dawkins, brown and sheppard are quite good.

also i think feely might pose more a problem for us than mcnabb. remember feely is the QB who beat us when with miami when they were 2 and 11.

Thanks for starting this thread. The Iggles corners are quite good. Lito Shepard and Sheldon Brown are solid. Brian Dawkins is one of the best safeties in the league he is always around the ball. Watch him on Sunday. Their starting SS Considine is out for the season. Not sure that really hurts them since every time I watched the Iggles games this year he always was getting beat badly. I do not know much about his replacement Mikell other than he is in his 5th year.

As it has been mentioned stopping Westbrook is a big key to the game. They line him up all over the field. He is an amazing player. The Pats can't let him get up the field untouched. They can't let him catch those screen passes clean. He has the ability to break a big play just like Addai.

Good thread.

I expect to see about what shirtsleeve forecasts.

They always blitz and they always blitz a lot, so it should be a good test for our offensive line.

Obviously if you blitz and don't get to Brady, you're dead...If you don't blitz and don't get there with four, you're dead...If you blitz and are about to get there, you're still dead.

You have to actually get there and quickly...

Anyway because they committ so many pass-rushers, I think it will be a good test for the OL, and hopefully they can get Maroney going on a few screen passes which are usually open against them...

All that said, I do wonder considering how good our recievers are, if they will blitz less than normal just to avoid one on one coverage against not just Moss but Stallworth, et al. I think seeing how a team that does one thing every game adjust their gameplan against a dominant deep passing attack will be very interesting.

I'm anxious to see if the Pats can stop the blitz and still run their preferred offense. So far they have been able to do that most of the time. They seem to have an answer for everything.

Eagles Game Plan is simple:

Blitz 4 D, Grab Brady and throw him on his 'ah hum' bad right shoulder, PILE ON, then wake up the trainer on the sidelines to drag him off the field. :bricks:

Bring in his backup... Who is that? I donno either, who cares really I am sure he has not played a serious snap in years.

Eagles win. :rocker: Simple. Pats 10-1.
ps Vrabel take your heart medicine you might need it.

It's doomed to fail. Brady's left shoulder is the bad one. Never believe anything you hear coming out of Foxboro. :p

I do not think there is much doubt about this, but it will be interesting to see the Pats against a blitzing team with a very good secondary. I see a big game for Welker and Watson over the middle and lots of YAC all around.

On D, I cannot recall the Pats using the Marshall Pan since SB 36. In SB 36, you would have a LB peeling off a run to the QB to take a shot at the RB. They cannot allow Westbrook to get into easy checkdown position like they did with Addai. I would expect them to shadow him closely, like Harrison with Clark. Maybe Harrison does it.
