SF needs more Patrick Willis, not less.

They wouldn't trade Patrick Willis for the #2 straight up - he's cheaper and there's only an even chance that what they could get at #2 would be better than Willis.

Let's trade the #2 for Bruce Willis and a Baconator from Wendy's.

Those are fantastic.

6 strips of bacon.

MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmm........Baconnnnnn.........

Recent #2s:

07 - Calvin Johnson
06 - Reggie Bush
05 - Ronnie Brown
04 - Robert Gallery
03 - Charles Rogers
02 - Julius Peppers
01 - Leonard Davis
00 - Lavar Arrington
99 - Donovan McNabb
98 - Ryan Leaf
97 - Darrell Russell

Bottom line - no surprise, #2 produces both its share of beasts and its share of busts. But how can you not trust Pioli/BB to get it right? If a trade presents itself fine, but as I said in another thread, you won't find me complaining about the Pats getting the #2 pick in the draft!!

You're talking about the chance to get a franchise player without paying the dues of sucking for an entire season. That's not something to take for granted.

Light a victory cigar with our 1st rounder imo.

That's about 50/50 bust to good player. And some of those good players were only good for a couple years. Kind of shocking.

When Gallery came out, BB said in an interview that he was the best player. Of course he could have been messing with people, but I don't think he's infallible.

#2 is a curse. Pray Dallas gives up it's 2 #1s for McFadden.

Trade it for 1st and 2nd rounders this year and 2nd and 3rd rounders next year.

The Pats have proven they get better overall team value with later picks compared to the "stars" who come out in the first 10 picks of the draft. There was an article around the time of the 2005 draft outlining the draft positions, expected contracts, cap impact, and overall team value. The author made a rational argument that those picking from 15 and beyond received far better long-term value than those picking earlier. Picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds are gold in terms of long-term value.

I agree with your general premise, but trading the #2 overall for what you're suggesting doesn't net the Patriots NEARLY enough. It would need to be the 1st this year, 2nd this year and 1st next year. AT LEAST. Even that doesn't come close to "the chart," even considering that the chart needs to be re-evaluated.

BB had the chance to take Patrick Willis but passed on him. Why...I don't know and wish we had him.

I want a Stud defensive player if he's there and can play next year or else trade down.

The teams picking in the first few spots are picking there for a reason: they suck balls. So to say something like "teams drafting in the bottom 15 end up having better teams" is a no brainer, they were already a lot better in the first place.

On top of that, that player is likely coming into a crap organization on a crap team, not a very great environment to help him develop. Maybe Charles Rogers becomes a great wideout if the Pats got him and he's put with Brady, for instance. The said sucky team probably ended up in suckitude thanks to some crap drafting, again screwing whatever statistics you want to throw my way.

Bottom line, a top 5 pick is not a bad thing if you're the Patriots. It's a great thing.

Does anybody honestly seeing the Patriots paying a rookie the type of contract he's been led to believe he's entitled to by his agent, even if he is a #2?

I don't. They'll trade down and get great value with little down.

Who is going to trade with them? As others have said, they are pretty much "stuck" with this pick, a) it's a tough pick to get good value for and b) do you think anyone wants to trade w the Pats right now? Oh, the burden of getting the 2nd best player in the nation :D

a) A team that needs a particular player that another team who drafts in front of them "may" also need. For instance, Chicago needs a QB, so does Carolina. Assuming that Chicago drafts ahead of Carolina and the Panthers want the QB they assume the Bears are going to take, Carolina calls Pioli and offers their first round and a couple of later rounds for the #2. (And yes, I know what happens when we assume.)

b) Of course nobody wants to trade with Patriots right now. But not every team thinks long term.

Then again I could be wrong, I am after all just a Rookie!

dont sweat what those other people are saying about not being able to move that pick. probably the same people that thought it was nuts to bring in Moss, or that the team gave up too much for an unknown slot receiver. NE always has trade leverage when it comes to these situations. They can do whatever they feel is best. Believe me, theyll have atleast 2 or 3 teams lined up begging for that pick if they so choose. Pioli will do the right thing. Plenty of options.

Huh??? Where do people come up with these ideas? Hell yes some team that needs to make a "splash" will trade with the Pats if they can draft a QB or some other STUD and sell a boat load of season tickets, merchandise, and create a "buzz". Guys like Daniel Snyder from Washington would definitely trade up to get another STUD if it was a fair trade. What, you think teams trying to improve are going to turn down a fair trade just becuase big bad Billy Belichick put a spanking on their team? Please.

That's the important part, whether they keep the pick or not, they'll do it right. It seems like some people are thinking the pick has gotten too good - and that's just not possible, whether we keep the pick or trade it, this SF trade will have been an immense coup of a trade.

Both of my points were brought up originally by Reiss...so that's where I got "these ideas". Sorry, but I'm going to take his word over yours, especially since you've already proven yourself to be a complete douche in the Maroney threads.
