Most are pretty reasonable discussions that you might expect (how do we get better, who should start, etc.) ........... But, I found THIS GEM in amongst the crowd. Classic stuff

Well, I've gotta say, that post represents the little child in all of us that is banging the crib in frustration.

I look at the all-star team that is the Pats, and I really don't know how Kraft et al. do it. I think I've seen threads to the effect that an all-star team of the rest of the AFC East would still get beaten pretty badly. How does that happen, that a team can assemble that kind of personnel in the era of the salary cap, and keep most of them?

Kudo's to Kraft, but here's hoping you can't keep it up. Don't players want more money at some point in their career?

Yeah, it's really only a couple guys, but I mean come on........ It's not just the players, a lot of those guys have played in other systems without nearly the same production. Coaching might have a bit to do with it too.

I agree, it is amazing what Bioli does, but that's should be a credit to them, not a slap in the face to the rest of the league.

I can remember feeling this way watching the 49ers of the 80s or the Cowboys of the 90s. It's frustrating when you are on the outside looking in, but thrilling when you're on the inside looking out.

In a strange sort of way, it's kind of like waiting in line at the Cheesecake Factory. When you are waiting 2 hours for your name to be called, it's the most unfair and frustrating process ever. When your name is finally called and you are allowed to proceed to the inner sanctum, you no longer care what the losers outside think.

It's the same way in sports.

This guy who posted that on the Bills site could be the biggest schmuke ever..Thank god he is a Bils fan and not a Pats fan.

Bottom Line--it is about asset allocation!!!!!!! and secondly--Id love to see the reaction of the NFLPA, if a FA player HAD to go to the team with the higgest bid..Would never happen.....


Why cant these idiots understand the pats have the same salary structure as others and choose to use the money available wisely, instead of signing has beens to huge deals...AKA Joey Porter.

Yes, and they leave for more money quite frequently. There is a lot of turnover over the years (look at Branch, Woody, Graham, Givens, etc. etc.). Thankfully, Pioli and Belichick are EXCELLENT talent evaluators and they draft young talent behind those players which gives them the cap room for a few larger free agent signings (AD, Colvin, though the big splash is rare). But most of all, they have a strong middle class which allows the team to have a lot of depth because injuries happen in this league and the team understands the importance of every man on the roster participating. It leaves them in a good position when injuries happen...unlike the Colts.

I've read that thread and I got to say, aside from the whining, alot of people were not quite praising the pats front office (FO), but giving respect. After all, winning is a big part of pro sports. There were some good posts from a variety of people saying taking less money and win is better than making more money and losing.

I know I would take a couple of dollars less a week if I loved comming to work every day. But you'd have to pay me a lot more than I currently make for a job that Sukked

i so agree, i dont think they are whinning exactly, but OMG, lol, change the rule so that players CANT take pay cuts?

Wow thanks for this thread, that was the most amazing whining BS I have ever read. They are actually complaining the the Patriots are so well run that players want to come here and do it for less money so they can win.

That Bills thread is mind boggling.

They just don't get it. The Patriots are like a giant snowball, like a vicious cycle. They won because BB, Paoli & Kraft were smart with money and pieced together a SB winning team. Then they tinkered with it and were smart with the resources and won another 2. Now it actually gets easier because they have a reputation for winning. Players come in for less money to be part of the magic and its self fulfilling prophecy as they keep winning and keep attracting more players.

Its called brilliance.

I lived just outside Buffalo in Amherst, NY in 1999/2000 and I was surprised to see the number of outstanding women. A lot of Polish & Italian...very nice. Of course the Amherst area is somewhat a college town, so that may have helped. I will say, I never realized how attractive Polish women are on average.

There seems to be a bit of revisionist history going on with Randy Moss. They are acting like there was a heavy market for him, but the Pats landed him because he was willing to play there for less. Now that he has 16 TDs, everyone is forgetting how much of the talk was about the patriots taking a chance on a bad club house guy, and the story everyone wanted to write was whether our locker room leaders were strong enough to keep this obviously bad apple in check.

Funny what a few weeks will do.

Incidentally, until Madden and Michaels said it last night, I had forgotten that Jerry Rice's record setting 22 TD season was the shortened season. That's staggering. Moss would need 6 in the next two weeks to equal that.

I think it's interesting to think about FA players taking well under market to all go to one team to try to win a championship. I don't really think that's feasible in football like it would be in baseball or basketball, where two or three players can make a much bigger difference. Also, salaries are comparatively lower in the NFL, so there's less room to do this. But, anyway, didn't a bunch of players try to do this in the NBA once -- Malone and Payton tried to join Shaq and Kobe by taking under-market deals to win a championship. Didn't work for them, if I recall.

Not only Moss, but the Welker trade was viewed by many on the Dolphins board to be heavily favored towards the Fins, and how he was not all that good. I believe the Eagles had a chance at Stallworth, but didn't want him. The only real acquisition we made this year that was looked at positively, was signing Adalius.
