Was wondering what you thought of Jared Allen today. He registered nary a sack. Do you think he was ineffective today?

He provided pressure which is the next best thing and was seen in the backfield along with Derrick Johnson numerous times wrapping up Addai for a loss of yards.

Your point is taken on two levels as the Colts pass rush wasn't as effective minus DF.

How many sacks does Allen have this year? More than Freeney has in the last two seasons, I believe.

He knocked at least one pass down that I can remember at the line, as well.

You are ALL making my point for me. Allen had ZERO SACKS, but he sure as hell was a factor, wasn't he?? D Free, while not racking up sacks, sure is a FACTOR, isn't he?? Mr. ALL WORLD ANDY J. seems to think not, because the NFL doesn't keep official stats on things like "pressures". And of course, if they don't track it, it must not happen, or be of any consequence:rolleyes:

Thanks for the support guys!

Freeney doesn't get that many QB hurries and pressures either.. He's one of the most over-rated DEs in the league.

BTW, moron, Your sig is garbage..

I'll complain about the AFCCG all I want. Especially since you are too stupid to acknowledge that Gaffney's TD was legit and that Hayden damn near raped Caldwell in the Endzone and nothing was called. Not to mention that Hobbs never touched Wayne on the PI that was called for "faceguarding" .

And don't even get me started about the last game. The refs clearly kept the Colts in the game.

Yes he does. Freeney is an excellent DE. I have no idea why so many Pats fans feel the need to belittle him.

Freeney is a great player and means a helluva lot to that Indy D. I've seen a couple games vs. the Ravens over the years where he's made future HOF'er Jonathan Ogden look stupid.

I've never liked Freeney. Never. Always felt he was over-rated and that too many people made too much of what he does on the field. He's very one-dimensional and when you shut that down, you're better off having someone else on the field than him.

Now, I will admit Freeney has gotten better against the run, but only marginally so.

He absolutely DOES get the pressures, this is fact. Now, as far as your opinion that he is over rated, that's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Freeney? You're talking Freeney talk?

Welcome to Clue Time...the show that lets YOU, the troll, blabber on non stop about inconsequential minutiae....the show begins sometime in 2008.

I'm kind of in the middle regarding Freeney. He is a one-trick pony who is really good at the one trick that he does. He is very good at bringing pressure and forcing the opposition to double team him, but because the Colts send him up the field almost exclusively he takes himself out of the play if they run. He's also short for the position and doesn't get his hands on balls at the line like a lot of the more complete ends (like Allen yesterday).

he was a bit more dynamic in the Playoffs last year, and a bit better at it this year. But, in the end, I assume he only does what he is instructed to do. Not sure why on 3rd and long versus the Pats, he's never instructed to "play the draw". Bottom line is he does force the issue, the QB's feel his presence, and he must be accounted for, usually with a double team. Ogden has done pretty well with him, but Freeney has also won many of those battles. Amazing if you take their size difference into account.

You can call him over rated, I don't think he is. He might be a little over paid, but not by a ton. But the way some view him, you'd think he gets trashed in one on ones versus 2nd stringers:rolleyes:

If everyone is entitled to their opinion, why did you start this ridiculous thread in response to someone else's opinion?

There is opinion, and then there is stupidity. Mr. Andy has been taking me to task about Freeney. When you refuse to recognize "QB Pressures" as a viable asset/function (primarily because the NFL doesn't keep an "official statistic" on it), then the "opinion" borderline insane;)

Obviously, you refuse to recognize the I.R.

this topic is DEAD for the year

Lay off the LSD flakes

Jared Allen had a good game. If Freeney played like that, I would say he did too.
Somehow you seem to think that Allen getting pressure makes Freeney better?
Tom Brady did a great job last night throwing the ball accurately. Does that make Donovan McNabb better?

It is very simple here.
Freeney is bad at sacking the QB.
To make excuses for him, you say he is great at getting pressure. That is nowhere in the vicinity of a fact.
You are calling Freeney better than I think he is based on your idea that even though he fails to sack the QB, he gets close more often than guys who are actually good at sacking the QB. That is simply not true, made up, and a figmnet of your imagination. Allen gets a lot more sacks than Freeney, and a lot more pressure too. See, it all makes sense, doesn't it. The guy who gets the sacks is also the guy who gets close more often.

Your comment that I am taking you to task is ridiculous. I posted my opinion. You disagreed. To 'prove' I was wrong, you came without facts, just impressions (the same ones I base him being overrated on , by the way) and now since you cannot win the argument, you create things such as its about you personally, that I wouldn't feel that way about Freeney if he wasn't a Colt (which is stupid) all to act like a little girl who is crying that they aren't wrong because everyone is mean to them.

Show me in ANY real form that Dwight Freeney, although he is 52nd best in sacks, is better than most of the 51 in front of him because he gets tons and tons more 'pressures' than all of them. If you could show me that Freeney had 9 sacks in 25 games, and another player had 18 in 25 games, but Freeney had 100 'pressures' and the other guy only had 20, then you'd had an argument. You won't find that though. What you will find is the guy getting the most sacks is also getting closer more often.
Of course if you could prove this (and again you can't because it isnt true) then we would have to deal with run defense, wouldn't we.
