Re: Maroney got benched last night

YAAAAWN. WTF. Was this thread necessary? Danny88, I'm starting to think a) you root against Maroney b) you derive self-esteem from his perceived failure. Both are pretty pathetic.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

Did you read his quotes earlier about his running style - basically saying the pats knew about his style when they drafted him and he sees no reason to change. He does not run with conviction and appears to be scared of contact. Trade Dallas the our #1 pick for their back.

I read that. The kid is a disappointment this far. The homers on this site will never admit it. They know it though.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

Wow, I thought Maroney was benched.

Then I saw it was just another hack job by the inside trolls. I think the two major hacks here are made of ass.

It could be that ( oh brother) Or it could be I am tired of seeing our number one running back do NOTHING game after game.

Then I come talk about it on the pats message board. Sorry I am not into drooling about how good we are every day. Or not into posting manning is a poo poo head threads today.

The facts are if you are not shooting sunshine up every players ass people jump all over you. This thread is based on facts and it is not written in a manor to discredit Maroney with no base. I said lets keep this civil.

Just another typical homer twisting my post to claim I am trolling , when I am respectfully calling out Maroney. You show me where I am disrespectful in this thread? Thats what I thought.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

You mean thru the same holes that Kyle Eckel and Heath Evans were running thru and looking like superstars? Please.

No, because earlier in the game those holes weren't there. Everyone knows that when a defense is on the field as long as the Bills defense was, that they get tired by the 2nd half and aren't nearly as stout against the run.

But, don't let the facts get in the way of your stupid hatred of Maroney.

There's a thread entitled "Randy Cross on Maroney injury". If you had posted this in there, I wouldn't have had a problem, but breaking out a thread for it? That just seems like troll-ish piling on.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

I yawned reading this thread.

We should cut anyone who yawns. I remember seeing Brady yawn once on the sideline, and look what happened to him.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

Your argument is flawed. If that's the case, than why not sit Tom Brady?????? Do you honestly think we would be better off with a Cassell-Maroney combo than a Brady-Faulk combo????? Please. Stop making excuses for this kid. He got benched because Belichick is tired of this kid's running style and inability to hit the damn hole.

The Pats DID sit Brady. Cassel played the entire 4th quarter.

Not to mention that you need to stop and think about the rest of the players the Pats have been bringing back from injury and how they have handled them with kids gloves.

Maroney was hitting the holes that were there..

Could you please provide these quotes because the quotes that I saw from Maroney did NOT say that at all..

Maroney does run with conviction and you're blind if you think he's scared of contact.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

Don't bother you? I can't debate you? Sorry, but I thought that was what message boards are for. Then again, I also thought drafting 1st Rd running backs was to get players that can CARRY THE LOAD!

Nope. You don't debate. You throw out worthless half-truths and pretend that they are solid fact.

As for what a 1st round RB is supposed to do, BB is a better judge than you. And considering that Maroney is still on this team and that its clear that the Pats are treating him carefully, I will just take your posts as the stupidity they are.

What people like myself know is that idiots like yourself are too quick to rush to judgement. You are probably one of the idiots who claimed that Ty Warren was a bust. That Dan Graham and Ben Watson were busts. That claimed that Wilfork was a bust as well. All after 1 year.

What I KNOW is that its too early to judge Maroney on whether he's a bust. He's had some injuries, but the Patriots have also babied players with injuries lately. Especially after the whole Ted Johnson Concussion situation came to light.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

I have been critical of Maroney of late about his dancing and stutter stepping especially against Indy, but last night wasn't his fault. On several runs, the defenders hit him immediately after the handoff in the backfield before he could even stutter step or dance. That isn't Maroney's fault. I felt our run blocking was horrible early. The only time the Bills got decent penetration was on the Pats running plays early.

As the game wore on, the blocking got better (not perfect). Unfortunately, Maroney was already out of the game.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

We were up 35-7 at half.
Faulk was injured. It seems obvious to me that BB and McDaniels wanted to get Evans and Eckel on the field to see what he has if Faulk is out for long.
I dont know how we can conclude anything from not using our #1 RB who has had some injuries this season when the game is out of hand.

I never said Maroney was a bust. I said he was a disappointment IDIOT. Which he is. Why don't you take his sack out of your mouth?

To say maroney is not a disappointment at this stage is stupid.

Stop telling me what I said. I never said warren was a bust nor Maroney.

You are the same guy that was hollering how the pats would NEVER draft Meriweather. Telling us how dumb we where for thinking they would. You are the one who is the idiot, haha.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

wow, this is quite a polarizing 'issue', eh?

On one side, you have the 'Maroney is a BUST!/SUCK!' people.

On the other, you have the 'Trust in BB/Pioli people'

I think the issue is deeper than that. I think most people want to see a team with a feature back - its fun to watch, and historically desirable. However RB by committee is the wave of the future. That way, backs get more than 3 or 4 years before the tread falls off.

Myself? I'm in the middle. i'd like to see a 1st round RB perform better, and more consistently than Maroney. I want to see him pound it up there, which he seems reluctant to do. On the flip side, he has a good YPC over his short career, and only gets limited touches per game - not the 25+ you'd see historically for a feature back.

I say we wait until the season is over before passing judgment. If Maroney continues to get 10 touches per game, isn't in on passing downs, and Evans/Eckel continue to pound it up the middle for good yardage, then the "Maroney stinks" crowd may be onto something. But if he gets 15 touches a game, ups his YPC to 4+, and runs with conviction, then I'll be happy.

It is interesting that he didn't get much time last night after Faulk went down, in favor of Evans/Eckel - but there can be several reasons for this, none of which we know. Could be they changed the game plan to feature a pound it out style, once one of their two shiftier backs went out. Could be the OL just can't 'get' the zone blocking scheme. Could be he danced too much. Could be some minor injury, and they are playing it safe. Only time will tell, by the actions of BB and Maroney, where he fits in here on this great team.

EDIT: and can we please leave the namecalling (stupid, idiot etc.) out of here? We can discuss this like intelligent adults, you know.

I guess you just started watching the Pats around game 5 of this year. Maroney was doing plenty the first few games. Sorry you missed them.

Then I come talk about it on the pats message board. Sorry I am not into drooling about how good we are every day. Or not into posting manning is a poo poo head threads today

No, you came to b!tch and whine and make judgements about a player and aren't bothering to take all the facts into consideration.

This is major BS on your part. This thread isn't based on facts. Its based on your opinion of the facts. Ones that you have purposely distorted to try and build up your straw argument.

Just another typical homer twisting my post to claim I am trolling , when I am respectfully calling out Maroney. You show me where I am disrespectful in this thread? Thats what I thought.

I don't see you respectfully calling out Maroney. I see you being a jerk about it, honestly. And you are being a JERK about it because this is the 3rd or 4th time you spewed this stupidity about Maroney. You and NSA should get a hotel room or something.

Maroney is being handled with kids gloves. As are several other players. As have several players in the past few years. Belichick learned from his mistake with Ted Johnson and the concussion from back in 2002. Or haven't you noticed that certain players have been IRed even though the injury doesn't seem that major to us. Randall Gay with his hamstring comes to mind. Seau last year with his arm. Broken bones heal in about 6 weeks. He could have been ready for the play-offs.. The Pats chose to not got that route.

Prior to last night's game, Maroney had run pretty damn well. And the Pats had used a 2 back system that didn't use Maroney in the Red Zone. One reason, I am fairly certain about, is that they didn't want Maroney re-injuring his shoulder. If the Patriots made that decision, who are you to blame MARONEY for that?

I seriously question whether you have EVER had anything more than a hang nail in your life. If you have, you'd know that it takes a long time to re-build your confidence and for your body to be 100% healthy. Regardless of whether your a pro athlete or not.

Re: Maroney got benched last night

So much for his "explosiveness"...

I don't know why folks on this board cannot face the fact that Maroney is not an elite running back. Nowhere even close! Laurence is just an average, decent back. There's nothing wrong with that!

But, he is NOT any kind of "gamebreaker" or "explosive" or any other adjective you would attach to an outstanding back.

On a night when the Patriots offense was truly "explosive" and the table was set for Maroney to bust out, here is what he gave us:

6 carries for 19 yards and a TD.

This put him firmly behind Heath Evans (10 carries, 56 yards) and Kyle Eckel (10 carries, 40 yards and a TD).

Seriously, folks, accept Maroney for what he is. You'll be a lot happier.

We'll go looking for a stud in next year's draft or off-season veteran market.

In the meantime, the platooning of Eckel/Evans/Faulk/Maroney will work fine.

Damn, you really need to learn how to read. I said you were PROBABLY one of the people claiming that Warren and the others were a bust. And, while you've not said the word BUST, you damn well imply it.

Actually, SFBs, I wasn't saying that the Pats would never draft Meriweather. But I wouldn't expect you to know wtf you are talking about. You have proven, to this point, you don't.

BTW, Maroney's balls aren't anywhere near my mouth. You, on the other hand, need to take the pole out of your arse because its interfering with your brain functions.
