Charlie seems to be so embarrased by his coaching performance at Notre Dame that he will be heading back to NE in the offseason to discuss what he is doing wrong and what coaching techniques he is missing - does he not have the talent to figure it out himself without help from BB and staff?.

Charlie can you say 'No Tom Brady' and 'No Brady Quinn' to carry your sorry fat arse to success? - Now you got to do it will all JAGS,lets see what your brain can figure out since ND dumped all that money in your lap for what - and embarrasing 1 win season?

I always thought Charlie was as good as the talent surrounding him as OC and HC ,now you can easily see he was overated as the OC here IMO.

Brady Quinn and Tom Brady made his offensive plays look good - not so much him being a genius as so many former Patriots coaching staff members feel once they are on thier own.

why is it pathetic to realize your weaknesses and seek the best for help? sounds smart to me.

He is getting paid big bucks to do what he is supposed to do,Turn arouind that team but instead is going backwards - Weis got overpaid and does not have the talent there but he should be able to figure things out going forwards instead of backwards to his NE roots thats why they hired him which apparently is a mistake so far - Brady Quinn was his savior in his first year.

Who's a better teacher than Bill Belichick?
I think it's probably the smartest thing he's done all year.

Belichick talks to his friends in the offseason. Saban, Groh, etc. Nothing wrong with that.

Brady Quinn was his savior in his first year.

Wait. I thought Weis was Quinn's savior. Do you remember Quinn's first two years under Ty Willingham?

I know BB is the best but Charlie should be able to do it on his own now.

Becoming a HC and making big $$$ should be sort of like moving out of your parents home, once your gone you should know how to live on your own.

Saban, Groh, the coach of Fresno St. (I forget his name atm), all talk to Belichick in the offseason. He talks to Crennel too. It's not that unusual.

I don't feel that way,I thought Quinn made Weis look great as HC,Quinn matured into a great College QB that same year, probably from maturity within the system and his talent, not Weis's teaching IMO.

Lets see Clausen do it - Hope they have a good recruiting year for his sake.

The class is currently ranked in the top three - his other classes have been very good too. His recruits will be Fr-Jr next year, only the Sr will be Willingham's slop. With mostly his guys, Charlie needs a good year next year.

The fact is, it's HARD to win at Notre Dame.

Here's why:
1-No redshirts: Virtually ever other program in the country allows them, but ND doesn't. When a kid comes to ND, their eligibility clock starts as soon as they hit campus. This is a huge obstacle.

2-Academics: A lot of high profile recruits simply can't get in.

3-No JUCOs: Junior College players can be used to shore up key positions while you wait for a freshman to develop. ND doesn't recruit JUCOs.

4-No conference affiliation: Some would say this doesn't matter, but conference play allows for weak spots in your schedule.

5-A challenging schedule almost every single year: This year's ND sched. hasn't been as tough as some, but typically ND plays a very difficult schedule year in and year out as opposed to some top teir BCS teams who may have only two or three games a year that the results of are in doubt when you look at the sched. before the season.

ND does have a lot of tradition and prestige on its side, but as a practical matter, those don't count for much on game day. ND should have been better this year (most who follow CFB knew this would be a down year) but I'm not surprised he has struggled. He's recruited very well which is what he will need to do to turn it around.

Look at what you're posting and think about how dumb it is.

On one hand you're saying Charlie always sucked and it was just Brady and Quinn making him look good.

On the other hand you're mocking him for actually trying to improve himself as a coach.

If he's always sucked turning to BB makes sense.

I hope so,Notre Dame is one of my 2 favorite college teams (Louisville is the other) and it has been totally embarrasing seeing what appears to have been High School offense all year from them,Charlie probably cannot even hold his head up high on campus
- If ND does not win at LEAST 7 Games next year I think Charlie is gone, despite whatever long term contract he signed.

Notre Dame is one of those very prideful traditional colleges that really takes thier football record as almost a religion and I bet its horrid in South Bend these days when talking about NCAA football

It's smart to ask the Patriots staff what you are doing wrong, it also takes some humility to do this.

Also, Belichick's touch is gold, every coach he advises in the offseason wins the championship, look at the Florida college bball and football teams, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Miami Heat.

I am not sure but didn't Saban lose this week to big underdog small school team like Appalachian St did against Michigan? - I heard something about it but didn't go further.

Patriot64 appears to have some deep resentment for old Charlie. I don't know why since he was always very well liked when he was here. Does 'ol Patriot64 feel offended because he wanted to move onto to other challenges? Nah, he couldn't be that selfish!

So, do you have the same opinion about Bill Belichick? You do realize that Belichick talks to other coaches during the off-season. Coaches like Jimmy Johnson, Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. Coaches like Joe Torre and Tony LaRussa. Does that make Belichick pathetic? NO. It doesn't. It makes him SMART.

ND & Louisville??? Why is that. I love how BC has become ND's daddy myself! I've never been a big fan of ND since they always get the most talent with the least effort just because of their reputation.

You are right about the fact I was never really crazy about Weis but that is irrelevant to this particular issue.

I thought he fit in well with the staff in NE but never did I think he was a offensive minded genius like those guys at ND who thought a NCAA Championship was near certain once he was under contract as HC,I knew there would be some lean times ahead but never did I see a season as pathetic as this one.
