Whats the one position where the Patriots empire is most vunerable?

I submit that everything comes crashing down, winning Super Bowls-wise, if Tom Brady goes down. What sustained the great 49er dynasty, and turned it from a 10 year reign, to a 18 year reign, was having Steve Young to replace Joe Montana.

If the Patriots get a very high pick from the 49ers fall this year, I think they should use it to draft the very best QB available. Im looking long term here, they must find Tom Brady's replacement now, as time does march on.

Any other injury or loss they can recover from, but not a Brady injury. I'd love to see a guy like Matt Ryan being groomed to take over. Im not convinced if Brady gets hurt tonight that a Matt Cassell can take them anywhere. So they need to think big with this potential high pick.

Think Montana and Young. How many draft picks is 8 years of a continued dynasty worth?

No, I am a huge BC fan and Matt Ryan is overrated. He has pulled out some clutch wins but thats just about it.

No way man. Montana/Young was pre salary cap, we can't have so much money tied up in QB - and we have needs anyway. Won't happen, shouldn't happen. And we're 5 years from worrying about "grooming" a replacement.

Pass the bong, brotha.

i dont think Ryan will go that high anymore, B/c BC isnt ranked that high anymore...

but he will be looked at very hard, if we can get him in the 3rd round, go for it....if we can get him in the second, debate it....

but that all depends on what they think cassell can do....

Great to dream - but that woudl be waaay too much cap money tied up at the QB position.

I would think that the Pats would wait at least a few more years before drafting Brady's replacement, hes still in his prime imo.

If we get the number two pick we trade down for a ****load of picks.

I am not sure matt ryan is all that great. Anytime they have faced good compitition, he hasn't done all that much.

I'll grant you that his receivers aren't good enough for him though and maybe he could become a really good pro.

Ryan will go in the first round, he's a good looking QB although his arm strength may be only above average. He's not slipping out of the first round, IMO. I expect him to go in the top half of round one.

Brady could break his leg tonight. Then what? Thats all im saying. Maybe if you trade the pick you get that teams QB as a solid # 2. For example, not saying this is the guy or team, but you trade the pick to Tampa Bay for Jeff Garcia and their # 1 in 2009. But you HAVE to get a legit backup in here.

If we draft Ryan and he breaks his leg week 1 then what ? We have a rookie QB and are going nowhere. Drafting Ryan would be for a long term replacement and Brady will be here for 6-8 more years barring a catastrophic injury.

dang, well, that ends that hope

This would be the most hilariously awful waste of a top 5 pick in the history of the NFL draft. You're kidding me, right?

That was just my opinion, you can still hope ;)

The one chance for you is if Ryan works out badly as there's a bunch of round one QBs (Woodson, Brohm, the guy from Hawaii) who could move ahead of him.

BB getting a top 5 pick and using on a QB who is going to be on the bench for a minimum of 5 years?

I'm going to have to go with no.

But if Ryan was available in the 4th round.....perhaps there's a chance we'd take him but he's going to be long gone by then.

Think Montana and Young.

Montana and Young. We hear a lot about that pair, don't we? "Nobody has depth at QB like the days of Montana and Young." "In the salary cap era, you don't see QB combos like Montana and Young like you used to." Funny how you never hear any other example, isn't it? Hmm...could that possibly be because Montana-and-Young were a wild historical aberration that only ever happened once?

IMO, unless the team is in love with Gutierrez a mid-round pick on a QB is a great idea. But a $10 million/year contract to a 1st-round backup would be suicide.

I would love Matt Ryan on the Patriots...just not right now. If he gets taken in the 2nd round this year by some team and is available a few years down the road as insurance, then I think it'd be a great idea to get him. But right now you don't want to pull a Kevin Kolb on this team with Tom Brady in his prime.

He didn't look that great in Miami but I haven't seen enough of Cassel to think that we need an emergency replacement in the draft. I'd like to see BB sit Brady for most of the Giants game and let Cassel show his stuff.

If Ryan was available at the end of the 2nd round, I'd take him. But he won't be, so the question is moot, really. The 1st rounder will be better spent on a top flight defender. If the Patriots feel Laurinaitis or someone will be as good as Patrick Willis is for the 49ers (he was all over the field today against the Rams), there's no way they don't snap him up.
