Here was the list he just showed on the NFL Today:

  1. Tom Brady
  2. Peyton Manning
  3. Ben Roethlisberger
  4. Brett Favre
  5. Tony Romo
  6. Carson Palmer
  7. Matt Hasselbeck
  8. Drew Brees
  9. Donovan McNabb
  10. Eli Manning
  11. Marc Bulger
  12. Jay Cutler
  13. Philip Rivers
  14. Matt Schaub
  15. Derek Anderson
  16. Vince Young
  17. David Garrard
  18. Jason Campbell

Garrard, Anderson, Schaub > Rivers. easily

I know its just one season but Derek Anderson might be moving quickly up that list. I'm a little surprised Garrad and Campbell made the cut. And some of those guys are having terrible/less than average years: Rivers, McNabb, Cutler, Young, etc...

I found it interesting that Kitna didn't make the list. He's probably #19, or #20 if Cowher has him ranked behind Garcia.

Favre is better than Roethlisberger.

Peyton isnt number 1:rolleyes: ....:rocker: :D

Reasonable list.

I dont think Big Ben would have broken the top 5 up through the first 5-6 games of the season though. May be a bit premature to put him up there.

I would put them into A, B, and C groupings and leave off the numbers except for 1-2.
A = Brady & Manning
B = 3-9 (McNabb)
C= 10-18

Garrard, Anderson, Schaub > Rivers. easily

Always tough on some of these newer faces with only 2 seasons to really look at: which is their true ability last year or this year. I think he gives rivers more credit for last year. I would agree garrard over rivers; but the other three are a toss-up to me until we see more.

My only real big objection is Vince Young, he's 35 or so. And yes, I do mean he's behind some backups.

After the top 6, maybe 8, it really goes downhill. Eli at #10? Cutler at #12? Rivers at #13? Vince Young at #16? Unreal.

And I was typing while Aqua made the above post, or I would have quoted it for truth. Young is absolutely awful.

Also that's all considering that Jake Delhomme, Matt Leinart, and Trent Green went on IR earlier in the season, they probably would be ranked above Vince Young.

Vince Young shouldn't sniff the top 25, that guy flat out sucks.

I agree. Vince Young has to be the most overrated QB.

I am not sure how Donovan McNabb made the top 10. In no way has he played like a top 10 QB.

Derek Anderson should be higher if it is just this season.

Personally I put Rothlesberger at #2, ahead of Manning. Rothlesberger is the most physically talented Qb since Elway, and he is the reason Pittsburgh has been so good the last few years. IMO he is the greatest threat to the Pats' this season and in seasons to come. Discounting last season, when his face was smashed by a windshield, he has had the greatest start to a QB career in NFL history.

Agree...Man, Anderson has been something, hasn't he?

  18. Jason Campbell

IMO Brees should be higher, Palmer maybe a little lower (hasn't been truly excellent since his injury), McNabb shouldn't be in the top 15, Eli should obviously be lower, Rivers, Schaub and Anderson are still kinda uncertain given their lack of history, and yeah, Young shouldn't be anywhere near this list. Also, I may just be a cynic, but I wouldn't put Favre anywhere near the top four. If I'm building a team for this year and this year only, Favre would be maybe my 7th or 8th choice at QB. He's been good this season, for the first time in years, but elite? I dunno.

I guess I'm having trouble figuring out if it's this season or in general. If it's this season, Anderson should be close to the top and Rivers and Young shouldn't even be on the list. If it's in general, then why are none of the injured guys even on there? I would take Matt Leinart, over the next few years, over a lot of guys who made this.

  1. What do you know. He puts his ex-QB third. Problem with Big Ben is he doesn't/can't win games on his own with his arm if thier run game gets stopped. I'd put Farve and even Romo above Ben.

I was wondering how so much trash floated to the bottom of the list. No Kitna or Garcia makes that a joke.

Is he talking actual QB play or potential? (EDIT, just saw Favres mname, that answers that question LOL!!). Shows why Cowher was always such a lousy judge of QBs (can you say Slash?).

Kitna is top 10-15 and Garcia probably is too. If I have a must win tomorrow, I'm putting it in their hands ahead of a lot of those.

Come to think of it, Warner deserves to be in there over a handful of others. I'd certainly rank him ahead of Rivers.

I'm a little surprised Garrad and Campbell made the cut.

Campbell doesn't impress me, but IMO Garrard is vastly underrated compared to the 1st-round boys like Cutler, Rivers and Young.

I know he's missed some games, but when nobody was looking David Garrard (heading into today) had compiled a 102 QB rating on 66% passing with 6 TDs and zero INTs -- and is the 2nd best rushing QB behind Young.

You're insane.
