Say we pick in the top three or four..... Would you take Clevelands first rounder, the cowboys 2009 2nd and 3rd plus Bobby Carpenter?

I would love a deal like this. Get a young stud lb who has NFL playing time. Net some future picks , and have a first rounder for a nice db.

Yes but why would Jerry Jones do that, especially since he has to eat Carpenter's whole remaining signing bonus in 2008 and pay a top 5 draft pick. (Not to mention Romo's contract for next season as well.)

If he's good, why doesn't he get any playing time? Maybe he's not good.

Thats true. I was counting on Jerrys obsession with Mcfadden.

Thats true. I just wish we could get a YOUNG lb who has spent time in the NFL to add some youth and speed to the position. While still nabbing a first round db and getting something for 09.

The number 4 overall is worth a lot to a lot of teams who feel they need that one cog.

How about Suggs from Baltimore, Ware from Dallas for the top pick in the draft and one of their second rounders sounds good to me.

If the Boys don't make a trade with us I really don't see us moving down.
Who would have enough to trade up in the top5?
Maybe we swap #1's with another team and they add another Quality player!

I would take a deal for Ware for sure.

Carpenter sucks though. What has he done for Dallas lately? They would be more than glad to dump him for the #4 overall pick and we would have been completely swindeled in the deal.

What do you guys think about getting Baltimore to give up suggs for their Qb of the future?
Remember Suggs is in a contract year and BB was extremely high on him coming out.
If we don't aquire a premier LB thru trade we gotta sign karlos dansby or give late round picks for a underachieving lb on romeos squad.

I don't like that idea because Suggs is a 4-3 DE in Baltimore. There is no guarantee he can make the conversion to OLB in a 3-4 system. Furthermore if Suggs is in a contract year anyways, I would rather spend the money on a free agent like Dansby and give up no draft picks.

In the spirit of being goofy... here is my scenario. Baltimore franchises Suggs, we trade the #5 pick for Terrell Suggs. We give Suggs a 6 years, $48M which is actually less than what the #5 pick would cost.

We get a Probowl OLB in his prime (Suggs is only 25 and is a monster)... BB was high on him coming out of Arizona.

OLB - Colvin, Woods
ILB - Bruschi, Moffit
ILB - Thomas, Alexander, Lua
OLB - Vrabel, Suggs

Rest of offseason
#1) sign Moss
# 1,000,002) - #54 comes back for one more year
# 1,000,003) Place second round tender on Mike Wright

Round 2) CB - Williams, Trae South Florida 5-10 193 4.40
Round 3 (from Oak) CB - Porter, Tracy Indiana 5-11 185 4.38
Round 3) ILB - Moffitt, Ben South Florida 6-2 245 4.69
Round 4) WR - Franklin, Will (WR), Missouri 6-1 205 4.45
Round 5) SS/Special Teams -Woodyard, Wesley (OLB), Kentucky 4-5 6-1 215 4.49
Round 6) FB - Hester, Jacob LSU 5-11 228 4.63
Round 7) Punter - Dragosavich, Mike (P), North Dakota State 6 6-5 210 4.85

8M a year for a part time player? That's pretty goofy.

How about trade down and get a couple starters for 2M each per year.

Then with the extra 4M sign Moss or restructure Colvin or Stallworth.

He would only be "part-time' for one year and then Colvin leaves. Colvin will be 31 when the 08 season starts, I like Colvin more than most but am not sure I would extend him. He becomes a 08 roster luxury if a younger, better stud is available.

I would like to trade down too but am being creative in case we get stuck with a top 5 pick. Any pick(s) will have a very hard time becoming starters at least in 08, with the possible exception of CB.

What about the rest of the goofy offseason?

The picks are pretty good.

That's the part that doesn't make sense about having a #3 or #4 pick. You pay them more than the NFL franchise amount for that position just about. That just doesn't make sense to me. You could hire a FA and they would be a sure thing and you would pay them less...and you wouldn't have to give up anything. Samuel will probably sign a contract for less than the first CB will get, if he's drafting in the top 5 or 6.

So what "value" is having a #5 pick? No value. Negative value. That's one reason why the crappy teams stay crappy, they pick in the top of the first round and get saddled with the huge costs of the players they draft. Not to mention those players frequently bust.

Look at SF with Alex Smith. He sucks but they can't just cut him, probably would have to eat 10M in signing bonus amortization.

Pats better hope they can trade down with someone.

Pats picked up a pretty nice player in Seymour in the top 6. What you say is not alwaty true.

um NO

our first is worth more than 2 first rounders ALONE(from where Cleveland and Cowboys will pick)

Plus Carpenter hasnt done anything and no excuse after Parcells left. No way should he be worse than Bradie James.

Were salaries as crazy for the top 5 or 10 like they are now? AS far as % of the cap? I don't remember Seymour's being just absurd.

At the time that Suggs was drafted wasn't Nolan running a 3-4 look then? I am pretty sure they were. Does anyone have info. how he fared in that system. Wait, Adalius would know.

Suggs plays in a3-4 right now..hes played it before and he plays it now. Ravens do 4-3 and 3-4 back and forth

he wants to be paid like 1 of the best defenders..not playing like 1 this year.

Im not sure honestly. The cap has increased. No idea if that offsets things.
