It's so sad it really isn't funny any more. I have to try hard not to feel sorry for the Dolphins. (Shula helps me out)

Small excerpt:

Wide out Yatil Green, the 15th pick in 1997, caught 18 passes in his life.

Tailback John Avery, a first-round pick in 1998, lasted 1 ½ years before the Dolphins gave up on him.

Tailback J.J. Johnson, a second-round pick in 1999, started five games, recorded a 3.4 rushing average and was out of the league by 2002.

Cornerback Jamar Fletcher, a first-round pick in 2001, started six games in three years before drifting to the Chargers, Lions and Texans.

Offensive linemen Taylor Whitley and Wade Smith, third-round picks in 2003, were both gone by 2005.

Linebacker Eddie Moore, a second-round pick in 2004, started three games, was constantly hurt, and was out of football by 2006.

Defensive end Matt Roth, a second-round pick in 2005, has 6 ½ career sacks.

Wade Smith rings a bell. Was he part of a Pats-Phins trade?

I know I wrote a piece about it on FH and I'm pretty sure I posted it here, but I have something very similar to this. Let me go try to dig it up.

Here we go, here it is.

Also, I think there are something like 1 or 2 players on our roster from the 2000-2003 draft.

Rick Speilman and Dave Wannstedt know how to kill a franchise.
Yeah, what amazes me is that Speilman got a job somewhere else, didn't he?

Cheer up. The John Beck era starts Sunday, and the Iggles are beat up. Westbrook is hurt. And face it, the bar isn't set very high for him to be the best QB you've had for years.

The Fins are smart to start him now. He's had a few games to watch, and even though he will undoubtably have a rough rookie year, you guys don't have much to lose. And next year, he will benefit from this year's playing time.

Raiders should start Russell, too.

The odd man out is Brady Quinn. Man, did he screw himself with the hold out. If he had come to camp on time, he'd have gotten the training camp reps behind Frye, not Anderson, and he'd be leading the Browns today.

As soon as Anderson gets a long term deal, Quinn will be Matt Schaub, destined to sit for five years. Cleveland paid his bonus money. Quinn will cost only minimum salary from now on and will be a cheap backup.

Yeah he works for Minnesota, I laughed real hard when I learned he got that job. I was hoping Lemon would play okay then we could trade him for a 2nd rounder to Minnesota and perhaps a conditional pick, the condition being that tomorrow is a Saturday.

I'm very excited for the John Beck era. I just don't want Dolphins fans to go crazy if he doesn't light the world on fire in his 7 starts this year. If Westbrook is out, we should win; if he plays we should get owned.

The bar for Beck is actually pretty high, my man. He's a smart kid and I love that he's learning under Trent Green and Cam Cameron because those two guys are gold when it comes to teaching QBs.

Russell will struggle to start because the Oakland line isn't that good and he isn't a very smart guy. He has ZERO surrounding cast to help him out, should be a long learning curve for him.

You nailed it on Quinn. Anderson is a fairly young guy; perhaps we could see another Brees/Rivers situation because you know they aren't keeping Brady on the pine for more then 2 years.

Or maybe he does become Matt Schaub, either way, he's in a bad spot right now.

Remind me again who Cam and Trent have mentored...

Anderson has done a commendable job with Cleveland to date, but as teams catch up with young QB's that success becomes difficult to maintain unless you are capable of adapting your game. Right now he just can't make the underneath throws and he knows it. Doesn't have the touch or sense of timing. Teams will begin to take away his long game because that is his only strength. Soon the INTS will start to mount as he tries to force the issue. He's done a good job avoiding that pitfall through the first half.

He's actually done Brady a favor. Given him a year to watch and learn and build a little chip to knock off his shoulder because rather than the crown prince handed the thrown he's gonna hafta win it in battle. That will rebuild some hardnosed character he seemed to lose in his senior year at ND. And he will inherit a team that has begun the turnaround process in ernest by getting a taste of winning.

Anderson is a RFA, and provided he doesn't slump too badly down the stretch the decision will be do they give him the top tender in hopes a first and third insures he's available to compete in 2008, or the first round tender in hopes a desperate franchise facing using a first on a QB opts to tender one with some experience. And of course as with all tender players, there is always the poison pill, which is why he won't get that 2nd round tender, and also the potential for a straight up trade including one that might involve some swap picks. Remember, Cleveland is without a first round pick in 2008.

Feel bad for warriors like Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas.
What are the odds old linebacker Zach Thomas replaces old linebacker Junior Seau when he retires after this season?
I'm saying better than 50%.
