It looks like at week 9, 50% of the top ten teams are on the Pats' schedule, counting the Browns but not counting the Chargers, depending on whose top ten rankings.

To wit: Browns, Giants, Steelers, Colts, Cowboys.

That does seem significantly more difficult than anything Miami faced in 1972.

Pats have had a very difficult schedule so far, especially considering they had to play the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the league on the road.

the sledding gets easier from here though

The heck with the Phins. It is a more difficult schedule than the Colts or Steelers by far.

Steelers yes, Colts no. Colts have played the hardest schedule in the league

Is this really an important issue? It hardly matters in that to win the SB, you have to go through every legitimately good team to get the trophy. That's the goal. Bring 'em on . . .

But the Pats don't get to play against themselves!

Toughest Colts opponents outside Pats:

Titans
Jaguars
Chargers

Cowboys

DVOA is a better predictor of team strength than W/L

scroll down for the "Past Sched" ranks

And by the way, that is HEAVILY influenced by the fact that the Patriots have the highest DVOA in history. Again, as a previous poster said, we can't play ourselves.

Or do you think that the fact that 8 out of the top 10 past schedules have been Patriots opponents this year is mere coincidence?

If you want me to search for pictures of Manning's mug for an avatar I'd be happy to provide the service. Masquerading as a Patriots fan isn't working very well when all you do is talk about/defend the Colts.

ok, and I'll search for a cheerleader avatar for you, for the great Patriot pom-pom waving

of course that's a big factor, so, what, you don't want to count their game against us?

It skews the data heavily, as in to the point of being useless. Again, it skews it enough that playing us basically guarantees a spot in the top 10 schedule rank, despite the fact that it will only count for 1 loss.

but the same argument applies to the Patriots...we had to play 2 of our games against the next top 2 opponents, both of whom have historically great DVOA's

spin it any way you want. Bottomline, starting the season Pats had tougher schedule than Colts. This despite the fact we were play 4 games vs likes of Bills and Dolphins.

Ofcourse next yr the #'s will look different since Jets and Dolphins have tanked it.

SOS is true barometer

why do you care what it looked like at the beginning of the season instead of what it actually is now?

Our next top 2 opponents have DVOA's in the stratosphere. The Pats do not. It is historic. Best ever. This team, to this point, makes every team of the last ten years look pedestrian.

according to LAST year???

and thats only cuz they played titans and jags, which a bunch of other teams with their superstars out....
