SF Pick - Will BB/Pioli gor DT

If the pick is top 5, would the Pats brass consider taking Glenn Dorsey, Junior DT from LSU if available ? Most likely he will declare. Now, before everyone jumps down my throat that we will either trade down or go for CS, consider the fact this dude is a complete beast who is unblockable.

Since age will be an issue next yr at LB, the move could pave way for playing more 4-3, and make a Front 7 of

Key backups : DE Green, LB Bruschi, LB Seau(if not retired atfer we win SB)

We know BB/Pioli greatly value Lineman especially since most of the DL and key OL are to long term deals. Furthermore, the front seven could be a "flex" system to play 4-3 or switch to 3-4 too.

Also, it saves more wear and teat on Tedy and Vrabes. We know there is no effin way BB selects any LB in the draft.

I don't know a whole lot about Dorsey, but I just don't see BB going for another DT at this point. Plus, I also don't see Seymour playing DE in a 4-3. He would play inside, where it would be more natural for him. So to answer your question, I highly doubt this would happen, IMO.

Agreed. Carpenter is a huge BUST and I want no part of him. However if Demarcus Ware is on the table, then I'd gladly talk about working a deal with the Pats top pick at stake.

Would anyone trade the #1 pick to Baltimore for Ed Reed. A six year pro with a new contract that locks him in for six more years (two more then a rookie contract). He is a BB type of player, one of the best at safety, a key position for the Patriots. Comes in and is a starter from day one. I believe Harrison retires, if he doesn't its still a major plus. Baltimore should be willing as they need to rebuild and are not going anywhere anytime soon.

Warren is signed through 2011. Seymour and Green are signed through 2009. I can only assume they want to extend Wilfork.

There's no room for another premier defensive lineman. You'd be looking at either playing predominantly a 4-3, moving one of them to LB, or having great linemen on the bench.

Belichick won't use the 4-3 fulltime as long as he has 3-4 personnel, 300 lb. guys don't convert well to LB, and sitting great players is a waste.

Unless the player is so special that you don't mind a glut of linemen for two years (or one year if you want to write off the rookie year in 2008) and are willing to let Seymour walk after 2009 then it just makes no sense. If you have a chance at a special player (Calvin Johnson, Orlando Pace) you make it happen, but those players are rare.

Long is a classic Freeney type. A bit on the small size for BB type lineman. Honestly, I would not mind him either. We could use a speed rusher too :rocker:

Just a correction: 1st round picks can sign 5 or 6 years deals. I believe picks 1-16 can be signed for up to 6 while 17-32 can sign for up to 5.

As for the Ed Reed idea, I don't see how that is worth it for Baltimore. They can reasonably believe they're a QB away from contention. Trading away their best defensive player would make them much worse.

I'd do that if I were the Pats. But, Baltimore wouldn't. Julius Peppers? Not many great defenders out there who would be worth that high a pick.

giving up the SF#1 for Ed Reed effectively says you're going for broke as long as brady is around. The cap hit will be insane, though not sure how much worse than selecting a top 5 player. Keep in mind we've got Moss to sign and make a decision on Stallworth

Now if they could trade down and pick up 2#1's and flip one of those along with maybe a 4th to Baltimore for Ed. That would work better

That way, we can keep rolling over the extra first rounder until there is a player that Belioli feel is worth the huge cap hit of a top 5 pick. I don't think there is one at a position of need this year, and Moss and Samuel are expensive priorities this year.

It was no trouble with Warren, Graham, or Asante (the Asante issue was when they franchised him after he played out his rookie deal). We'll see how it works out with Watson, who held out before agreeing to the extra year. The freaking Jets screwed up the Revis deal so badly that it could make longer deals more difficult.

I'm not saying that I believe Baltimore is a QB away. I'm saying that they probably believe it. They're the same team that thought McNair had something left and didn't replace him after how awful he was last year (they may have gone 13-3 but he was awful).
