Adalius Thomas played up to expections?

Before, and including, Cleveland, his tackle+assist (unofficial) average was 5.6; since then he's only had one game in which the number was over 2.0. I realize he missed a good part of the Indy game but his production has been down; very likely due to the ankle.

The guy was a beast up and until the Browns game.

He is injured.

I don't think anybody has mentioned the biggest impact AD has had.....he has allowed Vrabel to move back outside where he at his best and is having an All Pro year.

So yes, I am very happy with AD so far.

Patriots fans are watching what may well be the best team in the history of the NFL, yet almost all I see are threads about how disappointing players are. What the hell is wrong with you people?
The two worst topics are Maroney made of glass and the Patriots drafting Darren McFadden. Sheer madness!

It is the training staff's fault...

OTOH, this D does not lend itself to high stats.. so his assigment might be different, always refer to Seymour does not make it big in the box score, but is a difference maker. But also believe that he is hurt and is not able to move as well as he has in the past, the bye week may have been beneficial.

This has nothing to do with this thread which is if AD has played up to expectations.

Something to consider is that the Pat's defensive system doesn't generate stats other than points allowed and wins. Players like Richard Seymour absorb blockers and don't necessarily put up crazy numbers like Freeney for example.

It could be that AD is playing within the system and being very effective but it doesn;t show up in the box scores.

Exactly, but if you go to a Raven's site, all they talk about is stats, and when AD is brought up, they say, see, he's was good in our(ravens) system, but without Ray, he(AD) is nothing.

And they know what they are talking about.....after all, the Ravens are a really good team with superstars.......oh wait.......4-5, lost to the Bills, Bengals twice, Browns, Steelers. Beat the Cards, Rams, Jets and 49ers, yeah, they really have beaten good football teams. So I guess the Raven's fans know what they are talking about.......sheesh

He has done a good job. He played a lot of defensive end in the Colts game and if you re watch the game on the long Addai TD pass he is rushing the passer one moment then trying hard to chase down Addai. Great effort...

Yeah, it's not just the numbers that I gave but AD passed the eye test big time early; hopefully the bye week will let him get back to 100%.

I dont think he's yet 'lived up to the hype'. But there's still alot of season left. The guy's a role player. He's signed for 5 years. He's not gonna be cut if he doesnt mass produce today. But, if he helps get us to the playoffs, and we win a Superbowl, I wont care if the guy's had 1 sack or 12. But I have a feeling we're yet to see the best from AD.

everyone is giving him a pass b/c he's been injured and barely played defense vs indy, yet he was healthy enough to play on special teams - isn't this a tad inconsistent?

yes, of course he has been dissapointing. go back to when we signed him, and everyone was expecting a pass rushing monster who would shut down tight ends. well, neither has really happened - he isn't rushing the passer and the Pats D has generally been pretty bad against tight ends (the Colts game not withstanding).

it's like you're not allowed to criticize anything having to do with the team around here

Nothing wrong with being critical of the guy. I dont see that as a problem here. But everyone thought AD was being brought in to be this pass rushing monster that would play the OLB spot. Hasnt happened. Because he's more versatile, he's been moved inside. That's just not a spot where a ton of plays are made. Look at Bruschi. How many pro bowls has he made? One if Im not mistaken, and it was finally after earning his 3rd ring. NE's faced about every great TE in the league, and none of them have really had big games. Not that its been Thomas shutting those guys down. Its primarlily been Harrison and Sanders. But think about it. Gates, Witten, Cooley, Winslow, and now Clark. Gonzalez is the only other top guy in there theyve yet to face. And none of those guys did all that much outside of Gates in a blowout loss. He's not standing out, so for that of course Im slightly dissapointed. But he's doing his job and learning a complicated D at basically a new position. Just give the guy a minute to figure it out. That's all anyone's saying.

according to Football Outsiders, the Patriots have been #14 in the league vs tight ends. that is probably a bit skewed b/c of the huge success they had against Clark, which probably wouldn't have been possible if Marvin and Gonzalez had been playing

This is a no-brainer--the ankle has obviously hampered him a lot. I guess you could argue he maybe should have sat out a week, but it's hard to argue with undefeated. If you remember back to when he got hurt, it looked like a really bad injury.......I couldn't believe he came back that game.

I listed the TEs this team has faced. Minus Gonzalez, those are arguably 5 or the top 6 TEs in the game. I seriously doubt anyone else in the league has faced 5 Pro Bowlers. And considering every most of those teams has been in desperation passing mode, it makes those #s even more impressive, imo.

"He is a definite upgrade over what we had previously."

This may be true, but its not saying he is worth it.
We need some younger LB's next year if we want to repeat and I hope BB gets us one or two in the off season.

???????

He took far less than he is worth to come here. Far Less.

He may be slowed by injury, we don't know for sure.

He is learning a new and very tough system.

He is playing out of position.

Do you really believe that all the things that made him special have just vanished? What do Seymour's stats look like in a typical season compared to other guys around the league?

He is worth what we paid for him. We need linebackers and he was the best available in free agency.

Some poeple like to talk about things the team could improve. Maybe talk about players who are not playing well. Lemme guess you just want to hang out and gush about how great we are

As awesome as you think we are, there are many things that need to improve to remain the best team in the NFL.

I don't have a problem with being objective. I like to be objective.

The problem we have around here is when fans expect instant success from all these players.

Adalius is just fine. We have Seau ahead of him with 1 more year in the system.

Adalius may be injuried, we don't know for sure. But he clearly isn't made of glass because he kept playing.

All the things that made Adalius special have not vanished. He didn't cost us much in the grand scheme of things. BB will "groom" him as a Patriot.

The problem is when people claim they are being objective but instead they are being overly harsh and judgemental. Or just plain old jumping to conclusions after a small sampling of games.

Part of being objective is not to be too negative when the situation doesn't warrant it.

Gates 7-77
Winslow 4-49
Witten 3-47
Clark 2-15
Cooley 3-31

Gates had an average game for him, everyone else was below average.

I don't know how much AD has been covering these guys, but we haven't been bad against them.

I was expecting a All Pro when we got him but have not seen much of this.
Are you happy with his play so far and was he worth it?
thanks

I think the fact is he hasn't HAD to be a all pro superstar on this team.,....He is NOT one of 2 primary defense players on the Ravens defense.....He is a part of a very good and efficient D here......I would like to see him step it up a bit in run defense.....and that goes for most of our D lineman and LB's!.....He is so damned quick, that I would have expected alot better run defense overall from this group...He's doing fine

that is a good point in regards to an injury...I have read NOTHING,.....but he seems to be on and off the field alot....and may not be 100%...would think BB who lists Tommy every week with a Rt shoulder injury as probable......would put AD on there......if for no other reason than to throw off the opp....
