I didn't think after the whole Vick thing I'd find it hard to feel bad for the Falcons. But the Vick thing was funny, he's outtahere, and now they have a football team to run.

Enter Petrino. I thought at the time this was an oK hire. I think now he's a disaster. My general feeling is he is entirely and completely unfamiliar with the product in which he competes. He doesn't seem to know how to lead a professional lockerroom, he doesn't seem to know how to evaluate talent, etc.

The Leftwich Maneuver: So, having problems with Joey Harrington, Petrino got... Byron Leftwich? In the corporate world there's something called lateral movement. Kinda like when you get "promoted" but lose a couple of bucks and don't like the job as much. Or you get more money per hour but work less. I mean, if anyone is pretty much just another Joey Harrington, it's Leftwich. I see no difference between these guys, except for the fact Leftwich is more fragile.

The Dante Hall Fiasco: Well, here's one of your key players. You've done excellent disciplining him, but not so hot getting him to buy into your program.

The Grady Problem: oK So we want to set the tone in the lockerroom and trade Grady instead of Dante Hall who we clearly can't afford to lose. Brilliant.

Leftwich Part Deux: So this just in today-- Leftwich will start over Harrington when he's good-to-go. PETRINO-- THEY'RE THE SAME GUY. STOP CREATING CONTROVERSY AT THE POSITION WHEN YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET ANY DIFFERENCE IN PRODUCTION.

What an idiot. Is this guy fired? Am I the only one who thinks he should be gone after the season?

Not many college coaches have had success in the NFL. Throw him on the scrap heap among the many failures of college coaches trying their hand in the NFL. Not as easy as it looks. Give me an NFL asst. with some experience anyday.

I agree with this entirely. They're so different. I know it's blasphemy to say right now, but I think Weiss would be having twice as much success in the NFL as he is in college. I think it kind of works both ways.

The interesting thing is, he was previously worked for the Jaguars as a QBs coach for 2 years, and O-Coordinator for another (I believe)...

1. You mean DeAngelo Hall. Dante Hall is the punt receiver who used to be with Kansas City.
2. They released Grady Jackson, they did not trade him.
3. The going thought was that Harrington was more of a proven failure than Leftwich. Leftwich wasn't really terrible for the Jaguars, he was just a sub-par QB who got hurt every other day and had a huge contract. The Jaguars had a 12 win season with Leftwich. I don't think you could ever have a 12 win season with Harrington.

My job's on the line. Who do I go with? Leftwich or Harrington? Ar you kidding me, I go with Leftwich, of course. You know, the guy who has actually won big games in the NFL.

Grady Jackson was a shell of himself earning a big contract and disrupting the locker room. Who knows how good Petrino will be, but he just got rid of a Terry Glenn type. I'm sure that upsetting DeAngelo Hall is the least of his worries.

There are alot of good signs with Petrino, if you analyze the Atlanta situation carefully. He's disciplining the locker room and kicking out the sea lawyers and malcontents. He has the team competing on a week to week basis. It's early but so far so good. What did you expect, a playoff team after the #1 and #2 QBs are gone for the year (Vick and Schaub)? He definitely deserves another couple years to develop a young QB. That's his specialty.

oK First of, yes I screwed up names. And yes, Grady whatshisface was released and not traded (which frankly makes it dumber.)

Maybe I just don't see the greatness of Leftwich. But if my job were on the line, and I had to pick one, I'd pick Harrington. Leftwich is just going to get injured anyway, and Harrington will end up being my QB regardless. So why not have a happy Harrington instead of a guy you've benched twice?

I know you're not supposed to coach with injury in mind. But Leftwich is glass. I'd actually bet on a line at Vegas of whether he makes it through the season or not.

Petrino is made of....

I think its pretty simple. Joey Harrington is a terrible QB who has consistently lost and ended up unwanted everywhere he has been.
Leftwich won in J-ville. His problem has been staying healthy. On top of that, his contract was up after this year, and the Jags made a decision that they weren't going to pay him franchise QB $$ because of his injury issues. Rather than deal with having an injured unhappy guy for a year, they let him go.
You said they are the same guy? There is a world of difference between them. If they are the same guy why is there such a difference in arm strength, reading defenses (Harrington is pathetic at that) size, strength, and a track record of winning vs losing? Harrington may currently have the lowest winning % of any active NFL QB. If not, he is close, while Leftwich is probably in the top 10.

As far as Hall, he deserved to be disciplined and if it hurt his feelings, then he deserved it even more, and maybe some day he will grow up. You don't deal with a guy with his attitude by 'keeping him happy'

I don't get it they have won two games in a row so now they change QB's. That's a little strange.

Harrington's actually played at a decent level, but Petrino wants the QB with the stronger arm for his system.

Exactly. He was given a terrible situation and he's trying to right a sinking ship. And that starts with getting the malcontents to either straighten up or kicking them out.

Bobby is from the same state as me. He coached in Helena.

Your view is pretty weak.

He isn't the one picking the talent.

Hmm. Just want to make sure I've got this right. He didn't have involvment in the cut, the way that DeAngelo Hall is being handled, or the weird QB moves? And he's going to be good because he's from your same state.

I don't mind my views being called "weak." That said, I'd expect you to back it up with something... yanno... good.

I guess this is a we'll see kind of situation. In a couple of years they'll either be a wreck or a good team.
