I wanted to wait several days to post this to give the media a chance to make this a story, but isn't surprising the Pats get slammed for running up the score yet virtually no one mentioned how the Packers did the exact same thing this weekend. To his credit, Mike Florio on PFT via the Sporting News is the only guy who even mentioned it.

Up 27-0 about 2/3rds of the way through the 4th, Brett Favre led a drive that included 37 yard bomb and a 17 yard TD pass. Where was the media hoopla about that. Where were the calls for someone to take out Brett Farve's knee? Where was the "advise" from analysts to Mike McCarthy that if he is going to embarrass other teams, sooner or later it will come back to him?

There is a definite media bias against the Pats and this is a clear example of this.

Can't we MAKE ESPN broadcast this?

The problem is, people didn't actually think the Pats were running up the score, they just wanted something to bash them about. No one wants something to bash about Green Bay, so we won't hear anything about it. They could win five games in a row by 30, and it would be this great story about the rejuvenation of Brett Favre.

Someone tell this to those two gossipy schoolgirls on EEI's morning show.

Exactly. 20 years of watching the NFL, and I had never heard "running up the score." I had heard it in amateur athletics, but not frequently: Duke basketball beat some Div. II team by 70 earlier this year and nothing was mentioned. I do remember some talk about it when the run-and-shoot Houston Cougar teams used to beat teams by 60 or 70. But, again, never in professional sports.

Like you said, it's not the action, but the actor. Regardless, I relish it, and I know its further fuel to an already raging fire in the locker room.

I mentioned that on a fantasy football board and the thread was quickly locked.
meanwhile, there's all these similar threads about the pats every other day.

also, if you notice the bears ran up the score vs oakland.

I have been saying this all week! And what about Pittsburgh running up the score against Baltimore during the Monday night game? Or how about Detroit over Denver?

I mean, maybe we went for it on 4th down when we were already beating Washington convincingly, but what if we get into that situation in the play-offs, and we actually need the first down. We need to be prepared and know what we are capable of. We had to play the whole game against Indy to come out with the win. We can't play half-*ss for the last half of the game in the play-offs and come out with an AFC Championship.

Anyway, I agree. What about all these other teams everyone is applauding for winning by large margins?

apparently running it up once is fine. however if you manage to kill your opponents week in and week out, that is a cardinal sin my friends
