As they stand now:
Dallas is definitely the 2nd best team, imho. If they could have played without all the penalties against themselves in the 2nd half, that game might have gone down to the wire.
Pittsburgh lost to Arizona and Denver...wow.
Heck even the Giants list of losses looks better.

I'll hold judgement on the Colts until I see them play a decent offense in their current situation. I realize injuries suck, but they're facing KC, ATL, JAX, BAL, OAK for the next 5 weeks.
I can't see their injury situations, aside from Freeney, not being resolved by the end of that run, and I think only Jax can give them a game out of those contests. 12-4 most likely, by the end.

I agree, if the Cowboys didn't have 11 penalties for over 100 yards it could have been a closer scoring game that would come down to the wire scoring wise

I don't like Dungy, and that's because he is the coach for the Colts. Period. End of question, because, honestly, the degree I like a player or coach is predicated solely on the color of the laundry they wear on Sunday. And when sports fans admit this, and stop bashing players and coaches for any other reason, the world of sports will be infinitely better.

I think that might be about the most brilliant thing ever written in all the annuls of sports.

We have to keep in mind, we're voting which team is second best TODAY...not which team do we think will be second best if guys get healthy, etc.

Keeping that in mind, no way the Colts could beat the Cowboys this coming Sunday if that game were happening.

Cowboys are second best.

Yet penalties reflect how good a team really is. Can they execute their positions & responsibilities without committing penalties? I contend the reason the Cowboys committed so many penalties is because they were less prepared and less disciplined and therefore, an inferior team.

Had they committed fewer penalties, chances are the Patriots would have have executed their plays more successfully.

I don't know, I think a lot of the Penalties in that game were bogus just like fans of the Patriots thought the Colts/Pats game penalties were wrong as well. But its done with and I hope the Boys can face the Patriots again soon

I think Dallas is surging -- even if they don't have an answer to the Patriots. I almost clicked Indy, but I'm starting to think they are done. We've seen great [Patriots] teams overcome devastating injuries, but I don't think Indy has the horses. When people start playing out of position, the injuries mount. See you next year, Payton.
Even still, I think by the end of week 15, Indy will probably have clinched the 2nd best record in the AFC. And, well, Dallas they'll be the best in the NFC, and I still think Indy beats them with a depleted roster.

Just like Indy beat the Cowboys last year, with a worse Cowboys team playing them

The Boyz need to learn to shut Crayton's mouth. He'll end up helping them to lose otherwise. He has a big mouth for a run of the mill receiver.

He's a really good Slot receiver with one of the best hands in the league but yes even Cowboy fans are telling him to shut up

But the Colts surely are not the 2nd best team in the NFL "right now" as the the thread question asks.

He only has ONE of the best hands? That's why he's "run of the mill"!!! He needs to have TWO of them!;)

How can so many of you have voted for the Colts when the question asks "who's the second best team in the NFL...RIGHT NOW"????

That means if the Colts were to play Dallas, Green Bay, the Patriots, the Giants or several other 500+ teams this Sunday, you believe they'd win with the roster they have today.

Would you put your money on it? I wouldn't. I think RIGHT NOW, they are an average or slightly above average team. At least until they get some player healthy.

I have to admit im surprised to see so many picking Indy, I picked Indy although Im not 100% sure just yet, I want to see how we adapt to the injuries, some teams adapt better then others, this is new to the Colts to have so many injuries and in the coming weeks it will be interesting to see how they do..

Screw you man, half this board knows your a NE troll. I contribute more discussion to this board than you ever have. You're just a hater man. You can put that "pole" where the sun don't shine. As far as the "poll" goes, I think NE should be a choice. As for the roster, it's fine and dandy brother.
And there's another fine addition to the tradition.

Who said anything about putting any $$$ on the Colts? The poll asks who I think is the 2nd best team right now, after the obvious #1 choice, and I think the Colts are? I, too, had a hard time deciding over Dallas, but I think Indy is still the 2nd best team. With their remaining schedule and having all home games against division opponents, I don't see them losing again this year, combined with the 3rd loss the Patriots will give the Steelerzzzz, that would make Indy the 2nd best team in the AFC, which by my calculations, makes them the 2nd best team in the NFL.

This is a really cool thread. But it needs a nickname 'Troll Wars [for 2nd place]:D '.

Its not Indy!
I would say whoever we beat in the SB is 2nd best.

Right now, the best anyone can be is second.
This is the incredible truth.

This Pats team is beyond all of them,
it is in thier control.
It will take discipline,focus,team effort.
All the things they routinely do.

Crazy injuries, acts of God will be required to stop them.
They will not stop themselves.
My only fear is Zebras. Corruption.
There is no way this team implodes,no way they beat themselves.
No way anyone else is better right now.

There is something humbling, terrifying about this.
Knowing it is my thier hands, in thier control.
Do your job,it is done.

The Patriots I believe are up to this, thier work ethic,
thier standard discipline,
thier toughness,
nobody even comes close.

I have never enjoyed anything more,from Orr's B's,to Bird's C's
these guys are simply the best.

The Colts remaining schedule and all future games are moot. Who is the best right now and only right now is the question. If you pick the Colts as the #2 team, you're saying you believe they'd beat Dallas if they played today.
