Excuses are for losers.
The Pats never make excuses.

If someone wants to give Manning and Colts tissues to dry their eyes or a shoulder to cry on, why would any Pats' fans be bothered? The more they buy into the excuses, the weaker they become, the easier for the Pats to defeat them.

Let them keep coming.... The Colts shoulda won, Manning is so heroic, It's OK to go down fighting with honors, and with love... Let these things get into their heads.

The Pats are not excuse-makers. They are professional assassins. Only results count.

They will slay the Colts and give them a nice eulogy and a great mausoleum.

Fact is there are some people in here that will never be satisfied until 100% of media members agree that the 2007 are not only far and away the best team in football, but the best team that has ever been assembled on God's green Earth.

And, of course, the smart media pundits know that the best way to get people all riled up (and to ensure high ratings) is to silly things.

Does anyone rememeber what the headlines were when the Pats got killed by the Chargers in 2005? I remember Marty commenting on all the injuries we had, but the media did not excuse the loss as some kind of moral victory. If I remember correctly, the headlines were that the Pats are in trouble, the dynasty is over ect. So the Colts are having problems taking everyones best shot? Join the club Colts fans, we Pats fans now this story all to well....

Re: Why bothered by all the lovefest, excuses, and apologies for Manning and the Colt

I think Phil Sims understands BB and the Pats best. He said (not verbatim) that the Pats love to battle. Team fights them, but by the second half, self-doubt creeps in and wonder themselves if they really want fighting these guys.

I'm a Pats fan back of the day of John Hannah, and have never seen a Patriots team with a tougher warrior attitude. This must come from BB, whose manual is Sun Tzu's "The Art of War", and who seeks "to win every battle before it is fought".

So I was never bothered by all the comments on how the '01, '03, '04 Pats have so little talent, winning only by a few points per game etc... Those people just didn't understand and appreciate the value of mental toughness in battle.

Others who are so used to the comfort of excuses will regress to their comfort zone when the battle is fiercest. They start thinking how the press would hail their valiance and heroics, and the great epitaph to come with this. They blink first and lose.

That's how the old Pats beat 10 teams with 10 wins or more, 21 in a row, and just a few points per games.

For this '07 team, I don't care what anyone say. If they achieve it all, leave it to the history to judge. Deep down, even the most self-deceiving critics (like some old retired coach) know that they would have reached immortality.

I'm not bothered only by the fact that they're making up excuses for Peyton Manning. As a matter of fact I appreciate Manning as a quarterback and immensely enjoy watching him play. What I can't stand, though, is the media's double standard.

Tony Romo throws 5 FRICKIN' interceptions, wins the game and it's a gutsy performance. Manning throws a mind boggling 6 int's and he played like a true warrior that would've led his team to victory hadn't Vinatieri screwed up.

Now let's say Big Ben throws 6 int's against the Patriots and we win 31-24. Would they make any excuses for him? I mea, Quinn Gray threw 2 interceptions against the Colts and was promptly labeled the sole reason while the Jags lost that game. Sure, the score was lopsided, but people pretty much laid it all on Gray's performance (of course they also ballwashed the Colts for their performance on this game, my comments regard media comments on Jax play).

There are the media darlings in this league (Manning, Brady, Favre and Romo are the ones that come to mind) and these will have excuses waiting by their doors the second they screw up.

Deep down you guys know that if Brady had a game like that the media would also try to spin it positively. It's not a fair approach, but that's how it works.

Of course, since it's Manning it's even more annoying because he is the most ballwashed QB on the league this side of Brett Favre. So yeah, it's tough to see that the guy always gets every kind of praise, even when he has (arguably) the worse regular season performance of his life.

You must have missed it. There are no excuses; Peyton's great almost comeback under self-inflicted adversity is "heroic" and brings a tear to Dr Z's eye. There's no need for excuses when you can almost win a game at the end with a drive that comes up short and ends with a shanked kick.

Perhaps the excuses will come out in January. Until then, we can all learn to appreciate the tremendous value of a QB who almost wins after breaking the club record for interceptions in a game.

Um . . . uh . . . er . . . excuse me, but sir, all we have heard from Pats fans since last year's . . . uh . . . AFCCG is that the Colts would not have won if the Pats defense hadn't been so . . . . um . . . beat up.

Re: Why bothered by all the lovefest, excuses, and apologies for Manning and the Colt

They wouldn't have won the game if it weren't for all the injuries you clown; take your effin one Super Bowl win and be happy with it and stop being such an annoying, irritating ballbreaker.

Oh sorry; you're a Colts fan, it's what you do best, so carry on...............

You didn't hear that from the Patriot coaches or players and you didn't read that in the Boston media. Same cannot be said for the pink hats of Indy. All they do is make excuses and whine and pat themselves on the back.
Angels might be missing Freeney for a month and that'll be BIG whiney news in Indy. Funny how we didn't have Richard Seymour for the 1st month and a half because of a bad knee and nobody on the Patriots ever said a word about it. Patriots also didn't say a word about the butcher job they received from the refs in Indy. Colts are still whining about the calls in SD.
These two organizations are very different in their approach. The Colts and their feminine ways don't bother me. They're not my team and that makes me very very happy. When all is said and done they'll be a mere footnote in NFL history and hidden by the shadow of this Patriot dynasty. What bothers me is the media double standards and the agendas. That's what I have a problem with.

Re: Why bothered by all the lovefest, excuses, and apologies for Manning and the Colt

I don't really understand it myself. Some of it is over the top and silly, so it's worth commenting on a little bit.

But having my team win is, by and large, plenty for me. I don't need to capture the hearts and minds of opposing fans and the media along the way.

I agree about the excuses point. I love when our opponents are making excuses (or the media for them) because it means we won. (It's also a reason I had to stay away from this place after the AFCCG for a couple of months, because the blaming of the refs, or injuries, or whatever, turns my stomach. Team had several chances to win and couldn't get it done. Same with the Colts against us and against the Chargers. They didn't. The end.)

The Pats as a team did not make any excuse. Some fans might have, but they are not representatives. Out of 100,000's of fans, or any population, you'll find the whole spectrum of personalities, whiners and all...

What the Pats did was to analyze why they failed, not justification for failure. That is the difference. Once they determine the cause for failure, they went out to fix it.

Results: Moss, Welker, Stallworth, Adalius Thomas, rotating LB system so they are fresh and not tired out in the 4th quarter. Excuse is to seek comfort and justification for the status quo.

How does their fixing work out?

Or if they had been given an equal amount of rest that week or if the refs hadn't blatantly given the game away both with stupid calls against the Pats as well as missing the fact that the Colts held on every single play on offense and pass interfered blatantly at important times on defense.

Or if we didn't all have the flu. Or if we had a decent WR on the entire team who could just make a simple clutch catch. If our Oline could string an entire game together without sucking for long stretches.

The allegations of pumped in heat and crowd noise.

So yeah, there are clearly reasons we lost the game, and they didn't have much to do with the Colts.

So let's stay on topic: Did a single person in the media after the game talk about how heroic Brady was in defeat? NO. Not on your life. It was Brady's big meltdown and Manning's big coming of age for not choking in one game in his career that mattered.

So Brady's big meltdown involved throwing a pick in desperation time at the end of a game where he was shafted royally by the refs as well as the constant cheating of the Colts.

Not 6 blind interceptions in a row. For which Manning is a hero.

So it looks like your point is...well...pointless.

What if we think about this Manning thing from a different approach. Manning seems to be on every commercial on television. commercials pay the media big money. Maybe there is a correlation?......:)
