Let me note, I don't give a damn what other people think of the Patriots, I love them to death and I hope they win every game 100-0, but I do understand why lots of people hate them.

Imagine your a fan of say the Jacksonville Jaguars or something. Your team has been playing well, but you get no publicity. Everyone knows the Patriots are good and are going to make a run to go undefeated, so no one else but us wants to hear about it.

I see it like the sports banquets in highschool. Everyone knows about the best person on the team, so don't talk about them, talk about some other people.

So I can now see why other people get pissed off about the Pats. They are jealous their team and want some publicity about their team. If it was the Jags going for undefeated and the Pats were 6-3 or w/e and getting no pub attention, we'd all be pissed as well.

I hear ya, but since that is all about the media coverage, should folks be pissed at the media, and not the team? Heck, everytime somebody asks a Patriot about it, all they say is "Don't care about all that. We're preparing for our next opponent".

I could offer some new stories for the media:

1. Colts cheating tactics.
2. Pro-Colts refereeing
2A. Anti-Pats refereeing
3. Pittsburgh running up the score last week, and Green Bay this past week.\

Kidding about the above #3 suggestion, but you get my point.

My observation of other teams' fans:
it starts with jealousy, then fear/denial, then anger, and then hatred.

Usually it starts out earlier of the week with fear and/or jealousy. After a few days of intense discussion on their forums, the emotion becomes anger (as their team seems to have no fighting chance). Also denial, e. g. "The Pats have not beaten anybody" and with a lot of selective pseudo-statistical rationalization,...

Then comes battle cry, bravado,... (e. g. "hit-them-in-the-mouth" football strategy, or "God has mercy on the Pats, because we won't" etc.) and when the game day gets closer, it becomes intense raw hatred.

After a beating by the Pats, the Pats becomes their mortal enemy, even we have no such history (see Cowboys' and Redskins' fans' reaction after the games). More rational fans however, admire the Pats' success and want to emulate them. They demonize BB as subhuman cheaters for example, but if someone poses hypothetical situation that he would be available, many would jump to claim him for their head coach. (Back to envy)

Only confident fans like the Colt's don't seem to have mood swing as much (since they've beaten us 3 times). Steeler's fans, however still bear deep scars of past AFCCG and until they beat us in a playoff, we will be to them what Denver is to us.

Okay, nice thoughts but your wrong, I would doubt that fans of any decent team are "jealous" of another team. Jealousy is for fans of teams that have always seemed to be in the cellar. If I had to say why some people hate the Pats I would say that that isn't true, alot of people, especially the bandwagon fans love the Pats solely because of their success. Once the Pats have an off year, they will go onto another team that has all of the hype and attention. The reason diehard fans of other teams dont like the Pats, would probably be the fact that they do run up the score and that makes them come across as arrogant and nobody likes it when a team is arrogant, or even comes across that way. Personally I dont hate the Pats, I respect that they are a helluva football team and are putting up never before seen numbers, but at the same time I kind of get pissed off at the whole "I feel sorry for myself, because I got caught cheating and now I am gonna teach everybody a lesson" attitude BB seems to have.

Here's my take on this for what's it worth

We owe nothing to the rest of the league.
To the Fans who are whinning about us....Quit crying, your a fan not a player.
Does it hurt your pride or make you less of a man?
Get a life.

You're either naively wrong or you're lying to yourself!

It's not cellar dwellers who get jealous or envious, but rather the teams the dominant team "just" beats out every year. It's the teams that are prevented from championships and all the accolade that get jealous the most because they are the ones who are affected the most!!

And you know I'm right!

Bill Belichick, the Patriots players and we as fans don't feel the least bit sorry for ourselves regarding spygate. We see it for what it was, "no big deal". It's some in the media who have chosen to make this a story and a big deal.

Manyopposing fans like yourself act as if they are owed an apology and expect Patriots fans to be somehow "humbled" by this. Well guess what my friend? You aint gettin' no apology and we aint acting humble!! :D

Why on earth should we?

Here's the bottom line to those who "are appalled" by spygate and the Patriots?
The punishment has been handed down and the issue is DEAD.
No matter what the media or opposing fans say, the Patriots are going to continue to win...and win and there's not a damn thing anyone can do to stop us ;)

Cause it wasn't cheating and because you Steelers fans went along with your chuckle-head players (thinking Hines Ward here) went ahead and piled on the dis-respect wagon when you thought it was safe and there wasn't going to be any payback. You're going to get your asses handed to you along with every other team who thought it was safe to snipe at the Big Dog from the sidelines. If that makes the Pats the objects of hate, so be it. It's the Black Flag for you and yours.

success is good, its admirable... too much success is downright nasty!... thats why the pats are hated... after the spygate incident, being penalized with draft picks and being abused by the media and opposing fans, we are still clobbering every team that gets in the way...

if after the spygate incident we would have went like 3-6, after the media circus in the first 2 weeks, other fans would feel sorry and sympathize with us... but we're not, we are 9-0 and getting stronger... the more we win, the animosity gets stronger, after all the ridicule, we are still beating everybody else...

"the running up the score" thing is being magnified by the media when actually we are not the first team in the long and rich history of this sport to do it.... its unfair... UNFAIR FOR ME, A PATS FANS, NO!... but unfair for everybody else who isnt...

I agree with the original post. Who remembers the early 90's? I hated those Cowboy teams and always rooted against them. They were a great team, dominant and very easy to hate because of their arrogance and swagger. It is easy to see why fans of either the cellar dwellers or the competitive teams hate the Pats, its just the way it goes.

Now, with these Patriots it is different because the media, hype, talk radio, internet have made many more enemies for them. Analysts like Tom Jackson and Meril Hodge are almost laughable at how biased they are. But so be it, it is the new generation, how things change...the Cowboys were beloved by the media and could do no wrong...however the fans in other cities hated them.

I have a friend that sent me a text after the Colts game, it said "I am so sick of Boston sports"... I don't blame him, Pats, Red Sox, Celtics, even BC for a bit...alot to take from someone who is from Chicago, Philly, NY, etc...

I won't apologize, love the pats, f em all !

I still don't see when New England ran up the score? Don't even say the Redskins game cause we all it wasn't. Dallas game? Please, that's gotta be a joke. If you think they run up the score, then tell me what was Green Bay doing this last Sunday? Or does running up the score only has negative attention when the Pats get blamed for it. I can take you back even further, when "Forehead" Manning had his record-breaking season and point out games where I thought they were running up the score, but the media didn't think so because it was their lovable "Forehead" and the Colts doing it. So get your facts straight before accusing the Pats of running up the score because they never did.

Yeah, I hear you. But that just cuts too close to the truth for the media.

How about instead we talk about Mannchoke's AWESOME FRIGGIN' GREAT HEROIC PERFORMANCE LAST SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6 GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT PICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The stuff of legends!

Honestly, I think Manning qualifies as a "Fivehead".

What an absolute pinhead comment.

BB doesn't have any reason to feel sorry for himself and he doesn't.

He performed a perfectly legal act, taping the opposing team. He just happened to tape from a spot that was suddenly declared off limits by the league, rather suspiciously, after being perfectly okay for the last 88 years.

He simply needed to move the camera to any number of other spots and resume taping and all would have been well and dandy.

BB got over that whole thing during the first week of the season and put it behind him.

If he wanted to run up the score, he would keep Brady in during fourth quarters of games. Which he doesn't do unless needed. So your little theory about proving something to the league is out the window with the bathwater. There simply is no running up the score going on.

But don't let logic get in the way of your psycho-analysis of a coach you have never met and don't know a damn thing about.

There is one small fact you are overlooking, semen-breath.....No one on this board gives a ratsazz about what you think. You are only here because your team hasn't yet been crushed by the Pats. Once the inevitable occurs, you will leave and never come back, just like the colt-trolls, and I for one can't wait.

That's great! You want arrogance Mr. Steeler fan? Well you got it in spades. The only thing larger than the amount of arrogance Pats fans have for you is the amount of brain damage in Big Ben's head!

i was just talking about this with a close friend of mine today...

hes a bucs fan...and into football....

he was saying that he hates the pats, and that the hate started when the pats won the sb in 04, b/c it was back to back...

i think thats when it all started...when the dynasty was finally forged...

in 01, we were just another team, in 03, we were a team which didnt even make the playoffs the yr b4, after winning the SB, and had something to prove, nobody hated us...

but in 04, when we were still dominant, ppl turned against us...and its never stopped, cuz we made it to the second round of playoffs in 05, and to the AFCCG in 06, and then we had the most attention this past offseason, and now were the only undefeated team left

if i wasnt a pats fan, i would hate us too.....but im not, HA HA

I disagree with the bolded part. If the Pats went 3-6, everyone else would be pointing and laughing. Instead, they're pissed off that they can't do that since the Pats....keep....on.....winning!

IMO, it's just like how most fans of other teams didn't like the Steelers, 49er's or Cowboys in thier heyday and most baseball fans don't like the Yankee's. If your a fan of a team that's not been in the playoffs the last 7 years or just got in and out in 1 game or whatever, your going to get sick f a team that always seems to be there and has won 3 SB's lately and looks headed for another. Those fans are going to believe bad things written about that team because they want to believe it. They want that successful team taken down a few pegs.

If you want an outsider's perspective (and I'm not sure you do, but I'm kinda bored), there is definitely some jealousy involved. Most organizations aren't that well run or coached, and it seems like crazy serendipity to have one of the best owners with one of the best coaches with one of the best QB's, for so long, and with no real end in site. Most team's fans would kill for just 2 out of those 3. Many don't even have 1 of those.

Also, it IS a little boring. Most times at this juncture, you have no idea how the playoffs are shaping up, and only a vague idea of who might end up in the Superbowl. A team that is 5-4 could go on a run & become one of the real favorites. Sure, maybe Indy or Pittsburgh could give you a run in the playoffs, if they get every turnover & break, and maybe Dallas could do the same in the big game (and who wants that?)....but it's unlikely.

So, the rest of the league's fans are just kind of watching this slow, annoying march toward another coronation for the Pats, where we get to watch the hoodiest of the hoodies with his wry smile, Brady's golden boy grin & Bruschi holding up 4 fingers.

Fun...

Don't forget the Bruschi speech where he says, "All we do is play the game. We don't yuck it up. We don't change the rules. We don't whine about the refs. We just win."

It's coming...
