So far, what's your favorite Moss catch?

Mine has to be the the 2 touchdown catches versus the Dolphins. One guy snapped his knee trying to guard him. Both in double coverage. Only one reciever in the game could get those 2 balls.

The second end zone catch against Miami, where he one-armed it while double-teamed, was incredible. I need to see it again, but it looked like he didn't even use his hand, just trapped the ball between his elbow and his body. And that throw HAD to have velocity on it coming from so far away. That's my choice for No. 1 Moss catch.

The long catch against Buffalo where he was going full speed down the right sideline and reached out of bounds to snag the ball and then continue into the end zone was spectacular. So was the leaping end zone catch against the Bengals.

The Buffalo one I remember thinking, "either this is going to be picked off or out of bounds..." I saw Moss running full speed then he hit a shadow so I sort of missed the catch and he walked into the endzone. I sat there and thought, no way in hell. The incomplete pass that was originally ruled a TD would have been the best if it wasnt bobbled.

Although the two against Miami were more impressive the one hander over the middle against Indy impressed me the most because it showed his toughness and commitment to winning. He's been criticized for not doing those things over the years.

I have a top 4, if that works:

4) The one-handed, over-the-middle catch against Indy. He never touched the ball with his left arm, and he got hit almost immediately after pulling it down.

3) The long sideline catch against Buffalo. Two amazing things about that grab are that a) it was 100% in stride, he never missed a beat; and b) it went from sunlight into shade mid-air, and he was staring into the sun...that HAD to have been much more difficult than we could possibly imagine.

2) The elbow catch...I mean, it was one-armed; he held off the receiver with the same arm, he never actually touched the ball with his hand until he pulled it into his body, and it was all mid-air. Amazing.

1) The corner of the endzone non-touchdown. That was the best catch I've ever seen, and it wasn't officially a catch. AMAZING athleticism, hand-eye, and vision.

Those are the hardest one-handed catches to make. The ones going across the middle. I was thinking going back to the huddle and saying 'This dude just caught it with one hand.' Randy is not a real fiery guy. He was fired up about that one."

The one against the Jets where he split the defense, turned on the afterburners, and beat triple coverage for a TD on a perfect Brady throw.

That was a statement TD: "I'm back."

The one-handed one in Indy. No question. I thought my eyes were deceiving me when it saw it live at full speed. There was just no way. No way.

It also had game context all over it, and trampled all over the notion that Moss won't play the middle of the field.

The long catch against Buffalo - because I was actually there in the end zone. It occurred right in front of us, he came over to the stands and gave the ball to a to a young kid and high five'd him - it was great...

It was a game changer, imo. Pats didn't score, but if Randy doesn't haul in Brady's overthrow, we have to punt from our goal line and give the Colts field position.

The way Moss decided to take over the game, and do things his critics say he won't do was incredible.

I agree. For pure talent and spectacular quality, that was the best. Even though the replay made it clear that it had to be overturned, I was rooting for them not to, just so we could watch replays and everyone would remember it. Now it will be forgotten-always the greatest catch that never was.

However, factoring in importance, timing, clutchiness, and spectacularism (and yes that is a word!) the one-handed catch vs. Indy would have to be number one! As many have said, that was sick!

Here's the scary thing, ipatriot: the two quotes you used refer to two different plays. The "bobbled" pass came against Dallas, the corner-of-the-endzone "catch" against the Doofins.

Here's my top 3:

3) One handed catch Against the Colts: probably the best "pure catch" i've ever seen. Meaning, that i can't think of anyone else who could have made that catch. it was just too high for anyone else, and the speed and the path of the ball made the pass seem uncatchable. Then to see how he just man-handled the ball was insane.

2) Long Bomb Against the Jets: As mentioned by another poster, this was his "I'm Back" touchdown. It reminded me of the Moss from the Vikings, where he is just going to out-run defenders, make a play on the ball, and there is nothing that the other team can do about it. He does what he wants, when he wants. I read a quote from a writer that went something like: "he looked like the Pied Piper leading 3 children out to slaughter." He looked like a man amongst boys on that play!

1) Long Bomb Against the Bills: There is just something special about this play. It had all the elements of a great catch. First of all, credit to Brady, b/c the throw was perfect. Then Moss just seems to effortlessly glide on the field, while keeping his body between the ball and the defender. Then at the last second, he just throws his shoulder out and catches the ball with one hand. It seemed like a more mature Randy, that combined his speed and knowledge of the game, to make this catch. I keep thinking that a younger Moss would have outran the defender and just turned around and jumped into the air for that ball. I could watch this play over and over (as with most of his other catches as well).
