At the end of the season, which pick will San Francisco give us in the 2008 draft? (before we potentially trade it to somebody else).

If San Francisco loses to the Rams next week (and they should be favored to do so once the odds are adjusted to factor in tonight's debacle) I think they'll lose out.

That would clinch us the third pick in the 2008 draft (barring a shocking reversal of fortune in the strength of schedule tie breaker).

If the Jets win one of their remaining games (that includes Miami in week 13), we'll have the second pick.

If Miami wins two of their remaining games (that includes the Jets, Buffalo, Ravens and Cincinnati), we'll have the #1 pick.

If I had to bet right now, I'd say second.

I can see the crying already by fans of the other teams across the league come next April.

Logically I can't see SF winning another and I see The Jest beating Miami. Gut feeling says the SF D eeks out a win and we end up at 3 or 4.

So, if SF loses out it's possible that the Pats, by losing to the Jets, could improve their draft position from 3rd to 2nd.

I suppose the same could happen in the Miami game as well if SF loses out and Miami has won a game heading into the tilt against the Pats. Imagine if the Pats could secure the 1st overall selection in the draft with a loss to Miami in this game.

When it becomes difinative that the 9er's are going to get a certain pick, whatever it might be, then the press will really start reporting that the Pats own that pick, and we will hear the most absurd crap imaginable. Bet on it. Plan on it.

They will bi.tch as if they had no idea and all this crap.

We will be shaking our heads in confusion that there are such stupid uninformed fans out there. And they will continue to demand that the pick that is forfetted is the 9er's pick.

Florio will weigh in. Dungy will be asked and he will say, "well, it dosn't seem fair does it?" (with all that slow talking sincerity of a sanctimonous douch)

Heck, they will probably find all kinds of people to interview about this one folks.

"Do you think that it is fair that the Pats get this pick, even though they are cheaters... yada yada yada."

Clayton: "Many league executives are pretty upset that the Patriots are allowed to keep that pick and talks are being held with commissoner Goodell to find a way to take that pick instead of the 32nd pick."

Watch the way it breaks. We will all just have to weather another chit storm of stupidity. ;)

Pats wont be losing anytime soon:D

I don't think so either but follow this thru.

Assume that the Pats do lose their bid for perfection and can still secure HFA throughout even with loses to Jets and Miami. That would be 3 loses on the season.

Could you imagine the Eff-you to the league this could cause if the Pats played 3rd stringers in both games against Miami and the Jets, looking to lose on purpose (talk about embarrassing the other team) so that they could get the 1st overall pick in the draft.

But do we want the number 1 pick overall?

I mean, I know, its great, but I don't think we would pick with it, and I don't think many would be willing to trade up to that spot.

I don't know. It's late. Just my $.02

Strictly based on how they are playing right now, the 49ers should end up with the number 1 pick.

I feel better about the Jets getting another win and Miami getting 2 wins than the 49ers getting another win. 49ers are pretty likely to win out on any tiebreakers due to their weak schedule. The #1 is a distinct possibility.

I think a 3rd or 4th pick would be just about right....I like this Jake Long dude...Nothing bad about Kacazr(?),but could be good trade foe value...

This is how I see the bottom dwellers with 3 or fewer wins finishing, in order:

Cinci (3-6): will win 2 more (5-11)

Minn (3-6): will win 1 more (4-12).

Atlanta (3-6): will win 1 more (4-12)

Rams (1-8) will win 3 more: @SF (W), SEA (L), ATL (W), @CIN (L), GB (L), PIT (L), @ ARIZ (W). Final record 4-12.

San Fran (2-7) will win 1 more: Rams (L), @ AZ (L), @ CAR (L), MINN (W), CIN (L), TB (L), @CLE (L). Final record of 3-13.

Raiders (2-7) win 1 more: @MIN (W), @KC (L), DEN (L), @GB (L), IND (L), @JAC (L), SD (L). Final record of 3-13.

Jets (1-8) win 1 more: PIT (L), @DAL (L), @MIA (L), CLE (L), @NE (LL), @TN (L), KC (W). Final record of 2-12.

Phins (0-9) win 2: @PHI (L), @PIT (L), JETS (W), @BUF (L), BALT (W), @NE (L), CIN (L). Final record of 2-12.

Synopsis: We would pick 3rd or 4th in this scenario. However, if SF wins an extra game somehow, there could be several other teams at 4-12, and we could slip to 6th or 7th.

No matter what our pick, the Spygate pats will be accused of cheating and manipulating the outcome of the league... BB will grin and the media will continue their field day.

If they do get the 4th pick, I can envision a scenario with two trades, probably both at the last minute (draft day)..
First a team picking 7th or 8th wants a certain player that the team picking after the Pats is likely to take. The Pats trade down to 7 or 8, for an extra pick and then trade that pick for two lower first round picks (Dallas anyone???) You get more value, possibly 3 picks and you don't use too much cap space on a high first rounder.......
Can't wait to atend this year's draft....It was worth it just to watch the fces of Jets fans when they announced the trade for Randy Moss.......

Goodell steps to the mic April, 2008:

"With the 3rd overall pick in the 2008 draft, the New England Patriots select Darren McFadden. With this said, we are now cancelling the rest of the draft in addition we are cancelling the entire 2008 season as well." "To spare the league the trouble of even going thru training camps and scheduling flights etc. etc., the league is cancelling the 2008 season and are simply going to give NE the Lombardi trophy right here at the podium. Ah Mr. Kraft, could you please step up to the podium? Congratulations on your back to back Superbowl titles"
