Chargers chatter

Its amazing that these "classy" Chargers are practically tripping over each other to throw their coaches under the bus. This part really jumped out at me:

"Norv's not going to give you a Knute Rockne speech," said one Chargers player, "so you're going to have to find a different way to get yourself up. Look at it this way: We had a lot of young guys who came straight from college and then played for Marty. In some cases, they had eight consecutive years of a coach screaming at you and telling you what to do and how to do it. Now you're all of a sudden supposed to be a professional and do it on your own?"

Are you friggin kidding me? These losers are blaming the coach because he can't get them up, he can't motivate them?

THIS IS THE NFL, if you can't get motivated to play in this league then YOU DON'T BELONG!

I can hear Herm Edwards screamimg right now...

You PLAY to WIN the GAME. You PLAY to WIN the GAME!

These pansies don't even deserve to wear the uniform. Why do I get the feeling this quote was from that crying ***** Phillip Rivers? This is amazing how it is everyone else's fault except the players themselves.

What a disgrace.

Ifs and buts and all that...

That was a sick play, but if Manning gets that pass to the sideline instead of throwing a duck (more so than usual for him), Wayne catches it and is gone. Cro was beat.
No he wasn't. That play was designed to go where it did. Cro had it covered. Plus he's got great closing speed and he's flat out faster than Wayne.

That is a sick picture. I loathe the Chargers but that kid was amazing last night.

Yea he was. Yea he's been fairly amazing the last 3 games. The kid definitely has skills. Technically, he's not even a starter. He's leading the league in picks so I think that's about to change. ;)

I can't think of another CB in the league who could have made that play? Maybe Assante or Champ but we haven't seen anything from them quite like that yet.

Cromartie is looking like Ty Law Jr.

I think once the chargers ditch Norv they can get back to being one of the top three or four teams in the AFC.

Philp Rivers sucks though. How did he make the probowl last year. :bricks:

Sigh. Ok, I'll take that on. The simple answer is he played a lot better last year. Better decision making, far more confident, he executed much better last year.

So what's up with this year? Sigh. Lots going on there also. I think it's a broad combination of things that are completely derailing him this year. Seriously, if he was playing on the level he did last year we'd prolly be no worse than 7-2. Some say it's Norv and the new staff. There's some truth there. Some say it's a sophmore slump. I have issues with that cos while he is a 2nd year starter he's a 4 year player.

Bottom line I think PR is a much better player then he's shown this year. As a fan, all I can hope for is that he finds it. Really soon.

All I can say is WOW for Cowher if he opts back in ... open wallet time.

Yea, that has also been a matter of rampant speculation on our board.

Cowher is pretty tight with Marty. Marty mentored many and Bill was one of them. They're still tight now. AJ Smith is who he is. I'm not prepared to say we wouldn't go for Cowher if he were to become available. I'll just say that it would take an extraordinary set of circumstances for that to happen.

My wish list is Marty as GM and Cowher as coach. ;) I think that would rock. But that's also highly unlikely.

Here's a very telling stat with Norv-when he leaves, his teams end up in shambles for years to come.

Yea I think maybe 2700 people have also mentioned that before.

Sigh. That's not a visualization I choose entertain. :)

That quote jumped out at me too. Now, Norv and that coaching staff has done a terrible job, but I hardly think it's their fault if players need a college coach rah rah type guy to get motivated.

I don't even understand: "now you're supposed to be a professional and do it on your own?" You're in the NFL, yes I expect you to act like a professional and not a college player. It's your f'n job. Geez...

The NFL is a long, grinding season starting with a grueling TC-it not only wears on you physically, but mentally as well.

It's always a bonus when you have coaches that can continue to motivate you through thick and thin. No-they're not baby-sitters, but they're their to give you a hand when the going gets rough.

That's what both Marty and Cowher are known for. AJ always pooh pooed Marty's rah rah approach. The team was in fact used to it and it worked for them. It appears the team does miss it.

The question is, can we adapt? I'm not even sure who the most vocal leader in the locker room is right now? I know this. More than 1 needs to emerge and lead by example and it needs to happen soon.

I was a BIG Cromartie fan back in that Draft. I was bitterly disappointed when SD drafted him, though I was surprised he went that high. A 6'3 CB is a huge advantage in an era of big WRs. I still think he has some work to do on his coverage skills, but his potential is limitless.

As to your team. I think the changes have to start at the top. Smith is the problem, HE is the one that has to go. The entire culture has to be changed in SD. There is no question the talent is there (though Rivers looks more like Alex Smith than Tom Brady), but the Chargers won't be winners until they become more professional and disciplined. Under BB that talent would have won a Superbowl by now.
