It could get even scarier.

You could have Moss, Stall and Jackson stretching the field vertically and Welker in his usual slot spot.

If Jackson is back to full health, Am I the only one that finds this scary?

I think they are saving this for the Steelers.

I think they are making a good faith effort to get him on the active roster but might lock him down to IR. He had ACL surgery in January of this year. I can't imagine he is close to 100%.

But after the stink he and his agent made about how they would file a grievance if he was IR'd earlier in the year, Pats are doing a little CYA on this one.

Re: When the Pats go 4 wide.....

If CJ gets good, it will be the most unstoppable 4-some in NFL history.
I do not think I'm exaggerating.

Re: When the Pats go 4 wide.....

I really like the prospect of CJ and would be VERY disappointed if he gets IRed. Give him a shot and cut Gaffney with our sincere thanks.

Think Washington would be the one to go. CJ can play special teams and Gaffney is a proven performer on the big stage (See last year's playoffs).

I'm with you. I can't wait to see Jackson out there. It is truly scary to consider that he has the potential & talent to be the second best receiver on this team.

Re: When the Pats go 4 wide.....

If Jackson produces, could that spell the end of Stallworth next season?

Re: When the Pats go 4 wide.....

He doesn't even have to catch anything. He's just gotta run down field as fast and far as possibly, taking a corner or safety with him. We got other that can catch passes.

Re: When the Pats go 4 wide.....

I don't think that Jackson would add value on the field at the same time as Moss and Stallworth, I think he would add value when used in a rotation. Imagine if you are a corner and you have to cover two barnburners who keep alternating and taking you deep all game. You will get tired.

Re: When the Pats go 4 wide.....

Chad Jackson: 6'1 215lbs 40: 4.32
Donte Stallworth: 6'0 200lbs 40: 4.19
Randy Moss: 6'4 210lbs 40: 4.29

That's frightening right there. Really is. Then you throw Welker in there, the little guy who is a bytch to cover, that's just scary right there.

It is.
How the hell do you defend the run with that mess pulling the D apart downfield? What a dream team for Brady! And the O-line...the best in the business...
Oh, and who covers the TE?

Re: When the Pats go 4 wide.....

I hope no one's forgetting Ben Watson,
4 wide, plus 1 TE
Dizzamn

Re: When the Pats go 4 wide.....

This would be almost uncoverable. AT LEAST one of them has to be in single coverage, not good the the other team.

i believe so, yes...and i wouldnt mind the cap space either

Guys, in case you haven't noticed, if you line up inside which is what you would have to do in a 4 wide spread, speed is not all that important. Look at how much Welker is contributing and I would love to see his 40 next to CJ's. I honestly don't think CJ brings anything at all to this team except to spell Donte and figure out if we should resign him. I completely agree with xxMarkd400x

Not true. You could only rush 2 at the LOS and keep 9 in coverage. I think Belichick himself has called this before... I'm sure I've seen 8 DBs against the Colts in some previous game.

If you have a TE plus 4 wide who's doing the running that needs to be defended? Brady?

You simply drop 8 or 9 in coverage, and only allow the underneath routes. It can be defended.

Just because Welker is not a burner does not mean speed cannot be an asset in the slot. Moss has lined up in the slot this season. It's all about utilization.
