Nobody mentions Freeney's injury. Sadly, when a Colt is down, media exaggerates. They forgot we were without Seymour for 7 weeks.

Get serious. Freeney is a high profile pass rusher, and Sey plays a less than glorious role. Secondly, Sey didn't go down in a nationally televised game.

You are making an unfair comparison to justify and unfair belief.

Looked to me like a Achilles, but I don't think anyone knows for sure yet.

Re: Is Freeney out for season?

Then why nobody is talking about Freeney?

Seymour has also missed some big playoff games. I believe he missed the games against Indy and against the Steelers in 04. Jarvis Green seems to come up big in big games.

Of course the great achievement was when they used Earthwind Moreland, Chad Scott, and Hank Poteat -- all street free agents, with Randall Gay, a UFA, and Troy Brown. It still amazes.

Because his injury didn't cause Manning to throw an assload of INTs. The media is only interested in talking about missing Colts players if they can use them as an excuse for Peyton's crappy game.

Re: Is Freeney out for season?

I didn't get a good look at the Freeney injury but it looks like he did it to himself during one of his super-duper spinning top maneuvers. If so, I find this mildly ironic.

Re: Is Freeney out for season?

Because his injury didn't cause Manning to throw an assload of INTs.

I thought an assload was about eight, and a buttload was about six.

Not to mention that the Colts losing Freeney is much more serious than the Pats losing Seymour for the following reasons:

1) The Pats have greater talent and depth on the defensive line than the Colts

2) New England is accustomed to playing without Seymour due to his chronic injury history

3) Freeney is a player of greater impact than Seymour

(and don't anyone even start arguing that you'd take Seymour over Freeney, because if you do, you're just whacked. WHACKED!)

Please.... I'd take Seymour over Freeney every single time. It's not even close.

No! You DID NOT just say that!

You're laughing right now, right?

"Got old Armen on that one! LOL!", right?

You're not really suggesting you'd take a guy who plays 7-9 games a season and has a backup who is arguably more effective than he is over the highest-impact-RPM-motor-running D-Lineman in the NFL, are you? ARE YOU?

Can you even IMAGINE Freeney on this team? With Adalius Thomas and Vrabel and Warren and Wilfork?

Oh, my God, you're talking late '70's Steelers, the greatest D-Line ever assembled!

Wow! The Kool-Aid has permeated deep!

I am certain - I KNOW - Belichick disagrees with you. So does Pioli.

If they could trade Seymour for Freeney tomorrow, straight up, it's done!

Its not about who "we" would take for the Pats system, its about how the Colts D is built around getting pressure. Freeney is the cornerstone of that D (along with Sanders).

Thats a huge loss to them if its true

Re: Is Freeney out for season?

Seymour is a Dan Hampton, Bob Lilly, Merlin Olsen type player and multi-time complete "foundation" defensive lineman. Foundation linemen make all the other players on the line much better. The thing they all have in common is that they had or have complete games, equally facile against the pass or run, that merits constant double teaming. The other thing they have in common is that they all are or will be in Canton's Pro Football HOF.

Freeney is an undersized, overrated, can't play the run, pass rusher with one spin move. He no longer even gets many sacks, either. Being held to 3 last season, and a few more this year, as he lives off his past reputation. Over the past two years, despite injuries, Seymour has actually had a lot more Sacks than the poor excuse that brings only that to his game, and is a weakness every where else. The only way he gets into Canton, is to buy an admission ticket...

I can't imagine Freeney on this team, because he can't tackle, doesn't hold up the point of attack, and can be run over and by all day. He's tiny, man, he's not a 3-4 defensive lineman. He works very well in the Colts scheme; in the Patriots defense, he'd be completely out of place. The only guy I'd trade Richard Seymour for is Ty Warren (and Julius Peppers).

Luckily I don't have to.

freeney would not play the 3-4 well at all. he only weighs 268. understand, with the 3-4, the DE's need to play the run more and play containment. Sacks are very difficult to achieve. Getting pressure would be impossible for Dwight.

Come on, okay, Seymour is a good player, but think about this front seven:

Warren, Wilfork, Freeney, Vrabel, Thomas, Colvin, Bruschi/Seau

Definitely compares to the old Steel Curtain front seven:

LC Greenwood, Ernie Holmes, Joe Greene, Dwight White, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, Blankenship/Toews

Freeney the "sack artist" had a whopping 5.5 sacks last season and 3.5 so far this season after getting that ridiculous contract, and he can't defend the run worth a damn. Seymour, a far better player against the run, and a far better 3-4 player than Freeney could ever be, had 4.0 sacks last season despite the nearly constant double teams he faces and the completely different style of play utilitzed by the two defensive lines. Freeney would be worse than useless in a 3-4 system like the Patriots run.
