I've never seen anything like this Colt apologist approach from the media

I really don't understand it.
I have hardly ever in my life heard the majority of the media use injuries as an excuse for any team. Even moreso, as an excuse for a player.
Listneing yesterday and reading today, it seems a strong majority of the media is trying to paint this almost as a game that shouldn't count as a loss.
Manning throws 6 picks, and they are giving the Colts a pass due to injuries?
The Patriots of 03 and 04 were the 2 SB Champs in NFL history with the most games lost to injury by starters. There is absolutely no way anyone would have blamed injuries, and in fact, playing through them was barely addressed.

Yesterday Tom Jackson went as far as saying BEFORE the game that a Colt loss owuldn't be a big deal, because Tony Dungy has the character to get past that. It almost seems like the media is trying to RAISE their opinion of the Colts due to back to back losses. Not only are they making an excuse but they are trying to make it out that losing and blaming it on injuries makes them better than winning.
It seems that every comment within miles of the Colts is designed to inflate them. Peter King actually wrote that the Chargers playing with emotion like they did last night are almost impossible to beat. Are you kidding me? They would have lost to more than half of the teams in the NFL last night. They had absolutely no offense. The offense gave away 7 points. They scored twice because of poor Colts s/ts, Manning threw 6 Ints, and it took a missed 29 yard FG for them to win. Making that comment about SD, who played horrendously is clearly a way to make the Colts look better.

I just don't get it.
Why is so much of the media rooting for the Colts? It seems like they are playing damage control to make everyone think the Colts are better than they are. I never ever remember anything like this, and quite honestly I have no clue why the media has decided to make the Colts their cause.

It's this stuff that makes me hate the Colts. When we remind everyone of our injuries in the AFCCG last year (the one we're said to have chocked in) we're just crybaby whiners because everyone has injuries.

I think you missing the deeper meaning to all this.

None of them are really defending the Colts, their defending their own judgement ! They've all been writing and talking for weeks about how good the Colts are, when the Colts loose, they look stupid. They built his team up and having the team fail really isn't an option for them, because they'd have to admit they were wrong. How can someone who's been saying how great they are make a statement like " They should be able to make up for injuries like everyone else, oh ya, I was wrong to say they were an elite team, because elite teams overcome these types of things"

dungy is such a nice guy and a great coach...how can anyone not give the colts the benefit of the doubt....all class. sorry...have to go vomit.

just another reason why dome teams have trouble on the road ! play much in the rain...in the dome? all the analysts saying how the colts will have the advantage in foxb in playoffs...wake up !

None of this should be a surprise folks. For instance last week on his ESPN radio show Mike Tirico was taking calls on what sports figure would make the best President of the US. Without hesitation he threw out Dungy due to his integrity, character, blah blah blah. This national reaction doesn't upset me. I actually welcome it as it only fuels the anger and the fire that is driving this Patriots team onward to a season and post-season for the ages. So bring it on. Bring on the Peter King comments, the Don Shula comments, the Hines Ward comments. It only adds gasoline to an inferno that is burining out of control.

I'm surprised there isn't more questioning of the Colts STs and depth. When we were sustaining ridiculous numbers of injuries the last few years it was always "of course the Patriots keep winning, they have great depth.", but they don't question the Colts when they lose because of lack of depth.

The concepts of teamwork, efficiency, tireless preparation and self-improvement play well in Tokyo. America wants stars, big plays, shoot from the hip and natural ability.

The motive is the storyline - good v evil. Much as we would like it to go away, because no fan wants his team painted black (except for the Raiders of course), the NFL and the majority of the media NEED it to be the story. Dungy v Bellichik, Brady v Manning, Sanders/Freeny/Mathis against the vaunted Patriots O, Harrison/Wayne/Clark and Addai against the aging Patriots linebackers. The march to the AFCC - dome v the razor. All year they have been pouring their efforts and arguments to support that scenario.

Now that the Colts are questionable for the AFCC they are trying desperately to shore up the image, trying to make it still believable and consumable.

King lost my respect several weeks ago, but his latest scratchings are beneath contempt - SD played with emotion?????? what game was he watching? - I expect he thought that LT was fired up in his interview as well (for those that didnt see it LT emotionally flat but thankful for the lucky win).

The good thing is that the small minority that wasnt part of the Colts circus of adulation is growing week by week. Hopefully they will get more air time and can replace some of the goons like King, Costas, Jackson, Schelereth and Marino.

There are a couple of almost turncoats trying to jump the fence - viz Collinsworth and Clayton -but suspect they will jump right back if the opportunity allows.

Excellent point. Actually, this is the result of the Colts' "business model". Linebackers? Who needs 'em. DBs? Dime a dozen. The problem is that these positions form the core of your special teams. They want undersized, fast defenders...but these guys don't respond well when being blocked by a wedge flying at them. "Flat on you arse" is not a recommended tackling position (I looked it up).

On offense, the Colts simply don't have the money to spend on depth. Again, that is a choice that until this year has worked very well for them. You can't plug-n-play with the offense like you can with the Tampa 2 defense. The Colts running game is based on the OL moving cohesively and the Colts passing game is all about timing patterns. These areas need familiarity and experience. What makes their offense special also makes it extremely fragile.
