This was a topic that came up on the Colts forum, and while I personally don't think we would, I thought it was interesting enough to post over here.

So, we play the Steelers week 14 (which will be our 13th game). Both the Steelers and the Colts are 7-2 at the moment, and are now competing against each other for the bye in the playoffs.

Assuming we are still undefeated at the time we play the Steelers, and neither Indy or the Steelers have lost again, or only Indy has lost another game, do you think we'd ever throw the Steelers game in an attempt to take away Indy's bye week? I don't see BB doing it, because I think he and the whole team really do want to go 19-0, but if he really only cared about Superbowls and really doesn't care about other records, I could see someone buying into this.

Thoughts?

The Pats will play the Steelers straight up..Patriots LOVE to play football..always have'..it's about professional pride

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

This is a ridiculous idea. And you heard it on a Colts message board? Man, they really are paranoid! Both the Steelers and Colts have two losses, and as of now Pittsburgh holds the tie breaker as one of their losses was to an NFC team. But the Colts should be worried about even making the playoffs. With Harrison injured (and of course, that is the reasoning for them losing two games) they are toast anyway, according to the "excusemongers". I think they are finally realizing they are a "one and done" champion, and it must be making them sick to watch NE roll! But in any case, no way would BB ever throw a game for any reason!

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

No way in hell. What ******ed hick came up with that stupid idea? The Patriots are playing for history. Sorry to break it to you Colts fans, but we don't give a damn about your team, you are just another victim. The Patriots focus on winning every game and could care less if Indy gets a bye or not. The Patriots don't throw games, although I'm sure Polian has been paying off refs. The Patriots don't stoop to the level of the Polianites. 19-0, here we come, the question is who can STOP US? Go Patriots!

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

The playoffs will be a differnt animal...the pats are going to run defensive schemes not seen all year. Only superiot play by all star WR's and QB time to make the right throw will take advantage of them.

I will GUARANTEE a dominat run if Harrison remains healthy. Dirty? All Pro who has seen it all and has the skill to play what the Defenses dictaes. NOBODY suspected harrison would cover Clark... NOBODY...even after the gaem...
what the hell happened? Yeah, Clark is good...wtf does Rodney care ...he knew exactly what the olts were going to run and the Clark options...two recptions...HOW DID THIS HAPPEN???

aha ctird the media ********s...the Colts have negated Welker...he's invisible...right...this the game...Sanders is the big play guy on D...the Colts have to hold...and here the plays...Welker cut, catch, sanders burned like he wasn;t ther... Hi morons...a set up...the Colts never had a chance

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

No offense to whatever Indiana hayseed came up with that, but it's the dumbest thought ever. Forrest Gump could hear this, and he'd think, "Wow, that's a dumb idea." It's so dumb, other dumb thoughts are embarrassed to be associated with it. This thought is to dumb as the Grand Canyon is to ditches.

The Patriots would give up on an undefeated season and hurt their own positioning, just to control which AFC opponent gets a bye week two weeks before getting pounded in Foxboro? Wow. Um ... I don't agree.

Seriously, though, I'm honestly not even convinced that it's in the Pats' best interest to have the Squealers win the division, let alone have the #2 seed. [Remember, next year, barring a complete and utter collapse this year, the Pats only play the AFC North division winner next year.]

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

That is stupid. Absolutely ridiculous. To even think that would happen means the Patriots were afraid of the Colts, which they are not.

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

Possibly the dumbest post I have ever seen on this board. This is the type of post you look for later and can't find because it's been deleted ;)

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

Yes and lets throw the Jets game too provided they win another game so we can pick before them. Johnny, Johnny, wake up time to go to school. Must have been a bad dream.

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

I don't think Bill Belichick really cares who he plays or who gets a bye. Not with this team.

They'll play the Steelers straight.

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

This thread topic makes about as much sense as a dog dressed up in a prom dress. You got this bright idea from visiting the Colts forum?? What are you doing in the Colts forum any way? Until we play them again, what's the point?? Youre getting soft over there.

lol alright everyone I said in my original post I didn't agree with it either. just wanted to get the opinions over here on it as well, see if everyone agreed with me.

seems we all agree. i couldn't be happier to see 19-0, guess we're all the same.

shouldnt have overlooked that. and Ive been to the Colts forum, too. those guys are a riot. but the Steelers are going to be in trouble when they come to our house if theyre struggling to beat Cleveland at home. The first time, and the 2nd if it comes to that. Dont doubt it for a second.

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

Why do we play the game. We play to win.

Indy is no longer a threat. They are dealing with the injuiries the Patriots have always had and they can not overcome. Peyton is currently showing his true colors without his pro-bowl receiver.

The Patriots will play Patriot football.

Re: Would we ever throw our Week 14 Steelers game?

This hypothetical only makes sense if the Steelers have only 2 losses when we play them.

If that happens, let's assume we're still undefeated. Has it occurred to the rocket scientists proposing this idea that we could then lose home field advantage with just one more loss in the season?

Should we lose the Jets game?

I know it sounds crazy, but there is a chance that losing the Jets game could allow the Jets to have a better record than the Niners. If losing that game would give us, oh lets say the 3rd pick in the draft vs the 4th, should we lose the game? This is of course contingent upon us already securing home field through the playoffs.

Re: Should we lose the Jets game?

Merge this thread with the Steeler one so we don't have to repeat ourselves.
