A deranged woman who claimed she had to see a former Patriots [team stats] linebacker steered her car through a wooden security gate at Gillette Stadium yesterday, police said, plowed through a metal grate and drove 40 yards down the Pats’ practice field before stopping, the bent grate atop her vehicle.

Cheryl Richards, 41, is being held for observation at Caritas Norwood Hospital following her arrest for a list of motor vehicle violations and crimes, Foxboro police said.

Patriots spokesman Stacey James said the woman crashed her car through the door about 10:20 a.m., minutes before the Dana Farber Cancer Institute was set to kick off a blood drive on the turf field inside the practice bubble.

James said 20 people were there when the car, identified by police as a 2003 Accura sedan, slammed through the metal door. Foxboro police Sgt. Michael Grace said the folks inside were “thankfully” on the other side of the building.

...

Richards claimed she wanted to see Chris Slade, who was a Patriots linebacker until 2000. He played his last season of pro ball with the Carolina Panthers in 2001.

Slade’s relation to Richards has yet to be determined. “I don’t think she knows him,” a cop said.

...

Chris Slade, no who she was really looking for was Hason Graham.

considering that it has nothing to do with this team and staff iam now thinking how the media will spin this in some form of "patriots or belichick classless" story.

Chris Slade?!

Wow! At least she's not a bandwagon schizophrenic.

Feeding the darkside conspiracy stuff.. cannot wait for Easterbrook or King on this one.. somehow the Pats are evil because of it.

When the dust settles we'll learn that Polian put her up to it. He was operating on faulty intelligence that several key Patriots players were appearing at the blood drive kickoff.

Too possible explanations:

Shula believes the driver is the illigitimate daughter of that "snowplow guy".

Where was Irving Fryar during all of this?

Kinda nuts and a bit scary. Don't you often wonder if some derranged fan would attack Brady at some restaurant or on his way into his house one night? I mean it happened to freakin Nancy Kerrigan, why not some nut Jets fan stalking Tom Brady to take his knee out?

People are sick!

I'm more worried about some 360 pound Indy porkerette breaking into the Patriot cafeteria and going through the food stock like a rabid razorback, leaving the whole team starving and undernourished for the next game.

Didn't one of the Colts get attacked by his own wife the night before the refs tried to hand them the playoff game against the Squealers in '06?

Don't worry I think they have Mrs. Manning undercontrol.

Nick Harper ... I think he is with Tennessee now.

Did she find him?

I'd consider knocking down a gate to see Chris Slade. Loved that guy.

Yeah, he was also the one who recovered Bettis's fumble at the goal line, then was tackled by Roethlisnuts... somehow.

Me too. I thought Parcells was crazy when he released him. Interesting to compare his career with Wilie McGinest since they came in at the same time.

By the way, did anyone laugh their butts off reading this? I know it's kind of sad, but I thought it was hilarious.

Chris Slade was my favorite back in the day.
